Our house got struck by lightning and it bricked the modem, a work computer, and the PlayStation.

“Did you have a surge protector?”
Yes all of it was, unfortunately it was against the power of Zeus.

      Ask me about professional wrestling.

You should’ve got a Lieutenant Surge protector.

@Dreampipe How old was the surge protector? I lost some things to a surge that were plugged into a surge protector, looked into it, and found out that the damned things have a lifespan of 3-5 years. After that, it’s just a fancy extension cord.

@Ominous I’m not entirely sure but I’d guess maybe 2-3 years? Interestingly not everything plugged into it got fried. The PS5’s innards were destroyed but the TV and everything else hooked into it survived. All of our CO2 alarms went off at once too but I’m pretty sure they’re alright.

I mean either way if I had to bet on a plug or 1.21 gigawatts, the odds are not in our favor.

@Dreampipe I think at that level of intensity you’d be relying entirely on circuit breakers to force the energy to ground – but even then, it’s lightning, so if it wants to run roughshod over your expensive shit it’s just going to do what it wants. Zeus famously doesn’t care much about consent.

@sao No, they won’t be final. 😕 But the general rule of thumb is that VISITS stop as soon as termination goes through, even with appeals to come. (The bio-mom rants on FB about appealing constantly). The pause will give the girls time in therapy and stable homes to keep processing their trauma and building skills. If appeals restart visits then they will just be that much stronger to face them.

I’m really proud of oldest sister. Shit went down again Monday with mom. She had decided to come back to the visits upon deciding that staying mad at mom for not believing her about her assault wasn’t helping her heal. Mom decided to be a prat and badger her and kiddo about why they hadn’t done calls with grandmother the previous night. When the girls both told bio-mom they didn’t walk to talk about it she got sarcastic-angry. Sister walked out of visit, had some hysterics, then told the supervisor and her foster mom what upset her. Mom got told to knock it off or visit would end, then sister went back in and finished the visit. She STOOD UP for herself.

Some stuff happened and I’m staring down the barrel of an eye-wateringly large dental bill. Financing is reasonable so I’m not entirely fucked, but hey America? Can we stop pretending teeth aren’t part of our overall health?

                      Fuck’s sake.

Wednesday night at midnight, as I was taking the dogs out, there was a man standing at the end of my driveway. I think he was my creeper neighbor who sometimes watches me as I walk the dogs during the daytime, but I can’t be sure. He’s definitely got stalkery behavior.

Startled, I went back into the house and shut off all the lights so he could not see where I was and hid between some windows. I then saw lights flashing outside and peeking through the window he was standing there with a light shining on his body, masturbating.

I called the police and they came, but of course he was already gone by the time they got here. Response time was 15 minutes. A kind officer stayed on the phone with me until a trooper arrived and checked out the property.

I have never felt so scared as I did that night. I went to my sister’s house after the trooper stopped by.

I’ve since bought blackout curtains, multiple kinds of cameras, and several floodlights. Spent all day shopping to get everything. Now I just need to get it all installed. 😞

@Nynrose holy shit. I’m so sorry you had to deal with that? I’m glad the cops stayed on the phone with you, but YIKES. Stay safe. ❤

@Nynrose Have you considered a paintball gun packed with pepper balls? If he goes to the police over being peppercocked, he’ll then have to explain why his cock was out to get peppered.

Stay strong and maybe tell your crazy cousins/aunties/uncles/siblings about this.

First, I’m glad you’re safe. I hate having to ask this as well, but do you have a means of defending yourself? Pepper spray, for example. This is clearly a person who is demonstrating highly suspect behavior.

Is there any software for the mac that will just bloody well tell me what is making that fucking alert sound?

The way I deal with that is to go to Notifications from System Preferences, and turn them off one at a time until it stops, and then look at whatever the last thing I turned off before it stopped was.
