I’ve actually just received the Stormlight material from the Cosmere RPG Kickstarter! Very excited to dig into it. 🙂

My plan was to set it in a mining town to allow us to both mix the eldritch horrors aspect along with some of the politics of the labor movement so players could contrast the ancient horrors beneath the earth with just, y’know, people?

I know what you meant here, but my mind immediately went to noting that Rusty’s Rules are definitely horrific enough to carry a game.

@bear_necessities Crap, I lied. It’s ‘Dry Gulch’ on Ares, but it’s listed as ‘In Development’ and has been for quite a while.

Really, Westerns seem like a very easy setting to run. It’s weird that there are not more of them. And now I’m tempted to make one just 'cause.

@Gashlycrumb every time I set out to do something in the Western world, I either go Wyoming or Colorado.

Out on the pampas in Argentina would be a cool setting. Gauchos tend to have similar stories to American cowboys and Mexican vaqueros, but also would probably not grab that Americana vibe that most folks are going for with a Western.

Star Crossed did it briefly but well as a shifter based wild west thing.

Personally, I’d say Texas, along the Rio Grande.

I live in Colorado, which makes that kinda easier.

Yeah – very different setting. Really, there might be Mining Town westerns vs. Cow Town westerns, or towns with both. Alas, there’s not a lot of places to graze cattle near Leadville, which has a fun history. (Somebody said, “Hey, you know that black stuff in the tailings of your lead mines? That’s silver.”)

Something inspired by the Temeraire series.

Funny thing is, is that I’ve read that the Author admits to have been a regular on PernMUSH back in the 90’s. So would probably be quite OK with a MUSH being made.

@KarmaBum I agree totally and would love to see that.

Have you watched that guy’s youtube mini-building channel? I thought "I want that as RPG setting’ before he announced its release as a game.

@Gashlycrumb Yep. We started watching circa lockdown, and I kept thinking… this would make a great RPG setting. So we backed the kickstarter.

The guide is mostly mechanics that seems fun for a TTRPG, but also has some good setting information about various factions, and tons of monster info.

I would play in this world, sort of tongue-in-cheek but with real peril out there! I just don’t have it in me to set up another game right now.

                                    It’s someone else’s turn.

There’s also another recent Weird West setting out there put out by Monte Cook and using the Cypher System, which is Gunslinger Knights. It’s very much “what if The Dark Tower but RPG” but that in itself is a weird west setting.
