I like Batty way more than I do Gashly, so take the following with as many grains of salt as you care to:
On Modern Nights both had negative points and people who actively disliked them, the game is also in the past and dead, along with my ability to get a full night’s sleep without needing to get up to pee. We can all stand here for ages, hashing out old bullshit that happened either in reality or (more likely) in reality fuelled by years worth of ‘why I aughta.’
So let’s just stuff the confhatey back in the popper and leave it all alone. We’re all shit, we’ve all done shit, been shit, and/or said shit that we wouldn’t appreciate now and wouldn’t do now.

I think @Jennkryst is working on porting L5R to Ares for that very reason.
