Seeing cool new characters that look like they might be fun to RP with but not wanting to instantly PM them and come off creepy/overexcited/stalkery/etc.

RE: But Whyposted in Game Gab
So even if @De-Villefort is right and all genres except for sci-fi and cyberpunk are filled with nothing but bad terrible people…
So what?
Sometimes it’s fun to play the villain. Do you think that any actor that gets the role of a villainous type absolutely hates their job while doing so? Do you think Alan Rickman or Christopher Lee cried in anguish every morning they woke up before going off to play their various famous villainous roles?

@SpilledBeanz Well good on Cujo. Ugh, I’ve been jonesing to log back on, and it’s good to see him actually take a stand on something, even if it took something this awful to get him to do so. We’ll see.
sharayr always gave me a really weird vibe. Never RP’d with the other guy though.
I wouldn’t.
I have a very big feeling that it was only taken care of is because it involves obviously illegal stuff.

RE: pvp vs pvpposted in Game Gab
@Cygnus I want conflict to come from the environment and NPCs. I don’t want to worry about my character getting ganked because another player thinks it’s fun.

If I want PVP, I’ll boot up Rivals or something similar.

RE: Banningsposted in Rough and Rowdy
Conspiracy theory time.
What if Ganymede wanted to end MSB ALL ALONG?! Her RL has gotten so busy that she couldn’t control MSB with so many members as it was but didn’t want to let go of her online authoritah so she hired someone that she knew would be divisive and would let to at least half of the members would be banned or leave on their own so she wouldn’t have to do so much work but still appear cool calm collected catbot (BECAUSE THAT PERSONALITY IS SO FUNNY!) and it worked out enough because she’s cold emotionless lawyer who doesn’t have time for FEELINGS and admitting to making a mistake is a fate far worse than DEATH!
pls feel free to ignore this message, brought to you by bored people at work sitting in boring meetings and already mentally clocked out for the 4-day weekend.

People like unique and interesting characters.
People don’t like players with main character syndrome.

@Prototart While probably 95% accurate… this is not as interesting (to us tea sippers) as whatever actual log happened.

If you sign up for something
Go to it
Or tell someone you aren’t going to it
Fucks sake
I would say an exception to this is like, one of those big 20-30+ people social scenes where 1-5 people unexpectedly not showing up isn’t going to effect anything.
A smaller scene? Especially one that might center around your character being there? Unless something has happened IRL where you literally cannot send a quick ‘sorry something IRL has come up, can’t make it tonight’, then totally agree.

RE: Long or Short? Application Process!posted in Rough and Rowdy
@Juniper said in Long or Short? Application Process!:
If I have to apply, I’m already gone.
What is an ‘application’ to you?
I probably should have clarified or something my original message.

At least to me, an application is just ‘here is my character’. It could be as simple as a picture (or description) with a 1-3 sentence concept/history. Or as ‘complicated’ as having 20+ stats to keep track of with detailed descriptions of them.

Long or Short? Application Process!posted in Rough and Rowdy
Inspired by the discussion in another thread.
Do you prefer lengthy/intensive application process? Or a shorter one where you get into play quicker?
I’ll go first

Back in the day I didn’t mind a longer application because I thought that meant that the STs would use some of the information from the 100 paragraph novella they required to get approved. However, in the 20-30 years I’ve been RPing, STs using stuff from my character’s background (whether in plot or even a SINGLE scene)… I can count on one hand.
So, I like shorter. I just want to get into the action and focus on the plots the game is offering.

How about you?

I don’t know about “slightly upset” but once upon a time a review of this sort was considered valuable information for the community.
It still is valuable information.
Wikibara, however, tanked their credibility a bit by throwing in the whole ‘the staff are secretly racist’ bit.
ETA: Staffers can and should show people the door that they don’t think will vibe with their game for whatever reason. Just as the players can and should leave a game they don’t vibe with for whatever reason.

I don’t share hate messages anywhere or with anyone; they hurt enough when I get them, and after seeing the warm reception that I got here, it’s not exactly a shining example of open-minded folk. There’s no world where I choose to share some hate message to appease anyone, least of all this place. This is not where it belongs.
@Jennkryst
“Please, share a hate message, it means a lot to us.”Riiight.
It doesn’t ‘mean a lot to us’. This response is just showing that you are being disingenuous with your ‘concern’ or intent for including that you received an anti-sematic message after getting banned.
If you truly believed that someone from the server (especially if you believe it was STAFF), then why wouldn’t you share it to show others that this game is supposedly ran by racists?
Tell us WHY you included that statement otherwise?
In thirty-ish years of the hobby, I’ve been banned twice; three times if Reno counts, although it was in the last, like, week or so of it operating, so I’m not sure if it means much. “Couple” games is two.
Yes, I have seen you banned from at least two games. I’m glad we can both count.

RE: Numetal/Retromuxposted in Rough and Rowdy
@Wikibara This game was not for me. I think two of the staffers are okay human-wise, but I am not buddy buddy with anyone nor would I recommend this game to most people.
I have also seen some crass things on the Discord server. Someone joined the server, someone immediately made a poop joke about their name.
Again, I point this out to show that I am not buddies or trying to circle the wagons or whatever around the staffers. I’m definitely not an ‘apologist’.
However, it is absolutely insane to immediately credit a hateful message you received to the staffers that banned you. Maybe it did some come from shitlord on the server, maybe not. The staffers do seem to have a history of letting shitlords hang out on their game longer than they should.
Jennkyrst is right that if you truly believed that this message was someone from this game, staff or player, you should immediately have posted that shit here. Otherwise, it doesn’t have anything to do with your banning or the game.
I have seen you banned from at least a couple games now. Maybe you should look inward to change the behavior that keeps leading to this result rather than saying ‘I got banned from this game AND they’re all super racist!’

A lot of the time a moral victory is the only kind you can get.
The best moral victory is just leaving, letting them have their mutual admiration society*, and finding a better game.
