When people don’t understand basic thematic elements, can’t handle any kind of pushback, and spend all their time bitching about a person putting up so much as a shred of ‘no, thanks’.

I left my job of many years for a much better job but holy shit am I tired all of the time now. I just want to not be tired. I want to feel like I’m not scraping the bottom of the barrel for my creativity. I want to feel like I’m not falling into the FOMO pit.

I know it’s temporary and that by September I’ll probably be in a good groove and things won’t be as draining, but GD. I have so few hobbies and this is one of them, lol.

All I could do was laugh at seeing that my ban was permenant. I’ve never been banned anywhere in 20 years of MUing. I never even had a “serious” conversation about my behavior. No warnings. I’m as interesting or scandalous as toasted white bread with nothing on it.

But I’m banned for asking why Gany didn’t just lock some threads or step away. Makes sense.

not just specific to this but lol can we stop using this as something to bludgeon one another with

      everyone has a life

      unless you are not alive

even then you have an afterlife!!

I had surgery about a month ago now that has really just jacked my whole life up as I recover. But this weekend I met up with a pair of MU friends and it was a really nice reminder that things are OKAY and fun and enjoyable.

      Shoutouts to:

@Tat For being consistently impressive with worldbuilding. I watch the way you put pieces together and then tear them out and then put them back in and it’s something that I wish I could do with anything nearing your quality level. Being able to work with, alongside, partial adjacent to you has really helped fuel a lot of my own growth, especially when it comes to constructively receiving feedback.

@Herja For being a terrific GM that comes up with excellent plot hooks and twists. For being a person constantly on the look out for new ways to catherd RPers and forward direction. For being a person willing to say “the line is here” which is frighteningly hard to do.

@Apos Someday we will let you out of the char gen mines.

But seriously thank you for all the jumping into the deep end on code you’re doing. It sounds terrifying.

@KarmaBum and also @bear_necessities For creating a series of fun games and being plain and straight forward about the type of weirdness they won’t tolerate on them (but for some reason continuing to let me in the door despite endless threats to RP watching Lord of the Rings ICly btw is that available to stream on Glitch asking for a friend).

    • RE: Is friendship bad?

I’m a working person with a full time job that just took on a side gig so I can get ahead, a parent, a spouse. Idk who has time to worry about other people’s friendships.

My internet friends are my friends. If I stopped being friends with them, I’d have a whole hell of a lot less friends and that just seems silly when you’re an adult and making friends is hard as hell???

I didn’t get a promotion at work despite being more prepared for the role because a man existed who was older than me.

Who had applied for a lower position? Not even the one I was applying for.

      An external candidate.

Fully serious question. How do you really expect staff to build a limited number of places people want to go to when you have a constantly shifting player base who all want different things?

      Great question!

So having just opened a game myself (ahaha lol screaming), my original plan was to just do one big room per area. The game itself is an ocean with a bunch of island city states, so I was like “One room per city state, boom, done”. Because at the end of the day, descing 40+ rooms just felt like a chore to me.

MY GOOD FRIEND @Nilli was more into descing out spaces, so she went ahead and did I want to say like 3 rooms per city state. And they’re, I think pretty classic MU hang out spots.

If we need more spaces, or players want them, it’s easy to build them out. We’re operating on Ares, it’s super convenient.

And I guess I should clarify when I say I don’t like big grid games, it comes down to that I personally don’t want to build a giant grid of rooms all at once, or have a room of dead business and empty apartment buildings. That said, I also specifically created a game where that’s more or less not a thing that’ll happen super often.

But otherwise, yeah. I can ignore the rooms that are used less often, it’s not the end of the world.

      @MisterBoring

I guess, for me, I don’t assume that staff has ever written a grid so THEY can tell stories. A grid has the basics so that characters less familiar with the setting have ideas and places to congregate, the concept of where are folks most likely to gather. Putting together a bar, diner, movie theater, park, etc for the playerbase to run amok from and through.

Yeah, I think this is part of it for me. A lot of rooms aren’t built specifically for storytelling purposes, they’re being built to give folks places to RP in outside of that? Or because staff thinks this is what players want. That they want this kind of immersion, that they want the streets and all the intersections.

I personally am not a fan of big massive grids. I’d rather build exactly the places I think people will go and no streets and call it a day.

Because grid bloat sure is a thing.

Sometimes you don’t know what rooms you’re going to need until you need them. If inspiration strikes and I really want this scene to happen in place A but I don’t have place A, I’ll just do it in a generic room and write the desc into the set.

If someone really wants me to build the room out for later use, yeah, sure. But it’s not going to be priority if I don’t plan on going back there for anything specific.

People did love beating me up and some loved the threat my group and I posed.

In my time playing a bad guy for a game there were a lot of really great players and then there were some people who were like-- super fixated on how they’d kill my NPC. To the point that I was at my keys like, are you guys okay?

I know that I shouldn’t be but I’m still always kind of ??? when someone can list all the things they don’t like about how a person ran a game and then be like but if they could just do it better I could play there again.

It’s hard as hell to put these games together and run them, IDK.
