All fair, I wasn’t aware that TR reused names. A few coincidences does not make a pattern, so I retract!

I absolutely understand the idea they might be the same person. This recycling of names is so foreign to how roster and ares games work. It’s not something done in modern day MU*ing.

Recycling names might not be (it still happens, though increasingly rarely which is annoying), but with more roster games coming about one really should keep the idea of multiple players of the same character in mind when making accusations.

I am glad WM isn’t Saulot.

Most of my memories of WM, like stated already, was them defending/agreeing with people like Derp, jujube/inuki/pika, and others.

I also have never understood cheating in games, ESPECIALLY RP games, even more especially on non-PvP games like CoG.

this guy has more than once joined a game just to cheat, right out of the gate, with a side of negging the game runner from the fake alt for absolutely no reason. ‘your game sux, no one has reached out or been nice to me except Me’

not to mention some of his absolutely rancid takes here and back on MSB, most of which was consistently dismissing victims of harassment and insulting people trying to support them.

sincerely sorry to the people who came to his defense over the Empire thing, I don’t think it makes anything y’all were saying in general less valid, but the dude is a tool and didn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt.

          Thanks for the clarification.

Yeesh. I’m not sure what happened here. A lot of stuff is being thrown my way, not much of it true.

I think someone else already said, but I’m not Saulot. Apologies to him.

The only time there’s been an accusation of cheating that was even close to true was on City of Glass. Another player who I knew RL and was close with at the time had my password and logged on my character to a social scene. I got a message from them with a crap ton of apologies and excuses telling me what happened, but the end result was my character and hers were banned from that game. There’s no way to excuse that. I knew she had my password and would sometimes go onto my character, I didn’t change it. At the time I didn’t think it was a big deal and I didn’t think she’d do something like go into a scene with my character, but that’s on me and my poor choices and I never said otherwise.

On Empire, I have no connection to Sophia’s player and can only guess that Ada is just trying to dump on me since I dumped on her. I mean, I don’t know how to prove I’m not someone else. Same as I’m not Saulot. From what I got from Sophia, she wasn’t enjoying the game much, but we had a got along and I asked her for RP when no one else did. So if I was the only one she RPed with much, I wouldn’t know, but I wouldn’t be surprised. We got on well because I got her involved with stuff - the same way I did with multiple other characters on the game, but that’s about the extent of that. When I got banned, she quit. Not sure how that equates to us being the same person, but that’s a stretch and a half.

As Hollywood on TR, I was banned because I kept pestering Troy about trying to get other staffers to quit talking crap about my character on staff channels. She told me to stop bothering her and I didn’t. It wasn’t until after I was banned did some accusations about cheating get thrown out after the fact from which I never got a chance to address/defend and only heard about 3rd hand, which I think were about looking at my own jobs as a staffer, to which, if that was a thing, wasn’t more than occasional typos of the many, many, many jobs that I handled there.

About the rest, I mean… Clearly, I’m not liked. And that is what it is. I’ve been here long enough to know people love to go for blood. I’m not everyone’s cup of tea. My perspectives are different from a lot of people. I’ve ranted about that before, no need to rehash. I can’t change what I said or did 15 years ago, obviously, but try to do better. That doesn’t mean I’m gonna get it right every time. But I do try to not repeat mistakes.

My characters have had a lot of fun times in a lot of good scenes and rarely were involved in any drama. It was ooc that I had some clashes and that was my fault, obviously, cause I’m the common denominator.

But if I’ve made any of your game/character experience less fun, I do apologize.

This is embarrassing. Please take time to reflect on your actions. If that’s impossible, please take time to come up with better excuses.

When I was young, I had an imaginary friend, as I imagine most of us did. I would blame that imaginary friend for things as I grew older – I knew this person didn’t exist, but I wanted to get out of trouble. My mother, eventually, came up with an ingenious solution to the problem: I would be punished for things that the imaginary friend did.

                Suddenly, the imaginary friend disappeared.

That excuse didn’t work coughcoughcoUGH years ago, it doesn’t work now. Even if it’s true, it’s absolutely still your fault – so minor kudos for accepting those lumps.

can you be for real for once

No one is even bringing receipts to this thread, when there are absolutely receipts that prove you are still lying/were lying when you got banned. The audacity of crying off with some ‘people love to go for blood’ when YOU WERE THE ONE WHO TRIED TO GET PEOPLE TO GO FOR BLOOD.

This isn’t 2001, no one believes your girlfriend wife from Canada ‘had’ your password and logged you on to accidentally pose as you. No one believes someone you never rpd with on a new game told you in secret that no one but you had been nice to them so please take all their org’s resources.

I just wanted to know what the mindset is that makes someone sock puppet on a new game instead of, idk, trying to rp.

While I obviously can’t speak to anyone’s inner world without having many a chat with them, I can speak to mine back when I did this kind of thing in my very, very, very younger days: I wanted to Be The Best. Probably from a lack of validation at home, I sought reinforcement and attention elsewhere, to that end I wanted to be the richest character, or the combattiest character, or the bestest starfighter pilot or whatever. (ETA: This also included MUCH… ‘creative storytelling’ in my real life. Nothing majorly harmful, but very “I have a girlfriend in Canada” kind of vibe.)

Admittedly, these were all on code-heavy, RP-required-but-lite MUDs… but I imagine the same holds true in many other circumstances. Lack of validation and an inability to intrinsically motivate.

For a lot of (hell, probably most) folks, the first RP experience is the character they play and the second is the persona they’ve cultivated. In my youth in the hobby I was a borderline functional alcoholic hipster and would frequently overstate things and blow them out of proportion in a fake-bad kind of way, mostly for attention. Now 13 years sober, I definitely am very embarrassed about this, but it is what it is and I’ve largely tried to make amends where possible.

Anyway, likewise I can’t speak to the actual inner experience here outside of base speculation, but RPing is, for many, part of a larger power fantasy which can easily extend to one’s OOC presentation. Being respected IC can also be a very, let’s say maladaptive, stand-in for feeling respected OOC, which is probably what leads to most of the major crashouts we’ve seen in the hobby.

The hobby is more or less reliant on people being trustworthy actors within the scope of our OOC interactions, indicating that we’re trustworthy RP partners. Breaking that trust - by, for example, draining all of the resources out of your IC organization after being given a position of authority, or by breaking your word to someone in an OOC context or other similar betrayal - could lead to an attempt to manage or spin the situation so as to prevent being seen as untrustworthy. Whether the “significant other had my password” thing is real or not*^*, it’s important to take accountability and responsibility for those negative behaviors and, if unable to do so, identify why without resorting to blame.

I don’t recall Hollywood; I think they were very much after my tenure on TR, but based on this entire thread no one is particularly leaning on anything from TR being very problematic outside of the initial misidentification of Saulot; the focus is on recent behaviors rather than ones from 15 years ago.

^ Inner Soma’s reaction to using “real or not” here: a man in a sheriff 's uniform is reading a newspaper in a diner .
