Space is just so darn beautiful. And mindnumbingly vast when you think about it.

@Jennkryst three body problem is pretty great Quoted for truth, and to answer the question, will give the short review later, but also spoilers because a lot of it comes in book 2 of a trilogy.

@Jennkryst I picked up that book a few days ago, actually. I haven’t started it yet, but been looking forward to reading it!

@Jennkryst three body problem is pretty great Loved it. It’s very much in the high concept line of SF, but man, there’s some fascinating stuff in there. Also, I had done reading on the Cultural Revolution a few years ago, so it was interesting getting something that grew directly out of the consequences of that in sensibility.

The James Webb was sitting at my husband’s work for a while before launch (like, a couple of years); we’re really attached to the whole thing. They did a lot of cool tours and stuff, and my son was able to go see it several times while it was here. Every time a system came online, it was like a little mini-holiday at my house. When the first calibration image came back, it was like Christmas morning. The magnitude of engineering and elbow-grease that has gone into getting us these images is tear-jerking.

Found a gif on Reddit that explains where the subject of one of the more impressive JWST shots actually is: https://www.reddit.com/r/gifs/comments/vygdk0/i_made_this_short_video_that_zooms_out_of_jwsts/

One of the things I love about our last series of scopes is that we’ve been all: Ok we think it’ll be this good, which is awesome and then the telescope is all… Hold my drink.
