My MU peeve is when people in the OOC room are gushing about how awesome their character is and how they have this skill and that skill and put x points into y because it synergises with this other thing that lets them do this thing that is super powerful, and their next exp spend is going to be this other thing because that’s going to stack and make them even more powerful.
I don’t even really know why it makes me so uncomfortable? But it does, and every time I just quietly sneak away without saying anything so I don’t have to hear it.
I know it makes me uncomfortable because it’s leaning so heavily into the power fantasy, and you know they’re itching for a way to show that off – and that’s not necessarily conducive to the health of a game. It feels like they’re playing their characters for the ability to do these things, instead of taking things because they enhance what their character does.

OOC rooms just make my damn client blink all the time and I keep thinking it’s someone paging me for RP and get excited and then it’s just someone talking about whether or not Vegeta would win a fight against Alf.
(Which is silly, Alf would clean up, why are we even talking about this.)

And I admit a bit of snobbery in me that makes me look askance at those I think are minmaxing rp characters.
Take something that doesn’t synergize, because it makes sense IC. This is how you get FROG RESPECT.

@hellfrog I freely admit to a bit self-insertion during the times where I felt very much the same. And outright stubbornness because I didn’t believe I was the one who was wrong. Which I partially chalk up to ego.
Truth is, it’s more nuanced than that. Far more.

My thing about OOC Rooms is how weird some people act in them. I’m not going to list them because with all the fights we’ve been having on this board lately, I don’t want anyone to feel called out, but I don’t mind vaguebooking about some minor annoyances from days past.

OOC rooms can be weird and toxic in a way that public channels often aren’t. (Sometimes channels can be Just As Bad, but I see it happen more often in OOC rooms.)

I hang out in OOC rooms a lot because I just like chatting to people. It helps me feel some sense of community on the game, and I enjoy that? But yeah, sometimes they get weird.

I enjoy the community too, and they CAN be good things. I actually really liked the way Ares will echo the OOC room chatter to a public channel. It seems to help with some of the toxicity potential (some!) and also lets me participate in chatter even when I’m in a scene.

This, right here. THAT BIT. That is basically everything that drives me nuts about OOC rooms. Why would you ever make people choose between engaging in the community and RPing?!
