For the sake of transparency: I was tentatively against the idea. Not for any solid reason other than my belief that it goes beyond the remit of a “forum about online gaming with other bits.” I didn’t object strenuously enough to cast a nay vote.

I think this is a good idea because we demonstrably have non-members who actively dislike us who are reading public posts here and persons who are sensitive to that should probably feel like they can still communicate. Admittedly all anyone has to do to join is be a member, but it will at least… you know. There are intervening steps.

Yeah. Like, sure, they can still be a dick, but they have to really actively be a total asshole. And if they are – well, like they said. Membership of the group – and the forum – is a privilege.

@Pavel I sort of agree, but so is every thread in the No Escape from Reality section, imo. So I just mute it ¯_(ツ)_/¯. This might at least actually be discussion about games, idk. Doesn’t seem like it would hurt anything to try it.

Hence my lack of effort in opposing. It’s not what I’m here for, but I won’t shout down anyone else’s wants.

I just hope what goes on there, stays there. The Hog Pit was join only, but what happened there reached out into the wider “world”. I knew of what was going on there long before I gave up and joined so at least I knew first hand.

Well, this isn’t our version of the Hog Pit. We have that already. This is for sensitive discussion of topics that people want the comfort of not being immediately searchable, like those of sexuality, gender, and mental health.
