It sucks that he’s not the guy I remembered him being or thought he was
If it makes you feel any better, that guy for me is Bill Cosby.
-
@Arkandel It doesn’t, but I totally get it. I have it in me to still be furious at Cosby because I found out about his bullshit while he was still alive. I can be mad at live people (and can hold grudges for much longer than I can remember what the grudge was even about). Gallagher is dead, so I can’t make myself be mad at him even having read that list of the horrible shit he said. I can only feel sad as I try to integrate the new information into my understanding of his legacy.
-
@GF There’s also something to be said for the difference, however slight, between someone saying and believing something horrendous vs doing something horrendous.
If Cosby’s bullshit came out after his death, it would still have a stronger impact in my view because it was something he did. The same with Jimmy Saville, for the UK audience.

@Pavel It’s a mixed bag, though.
Arguably no one is going to be more inclined to rape women because of what Cosby did.
But there might be people who feel encouraged to be bigots because a comedian normalized racism, homophobia, etc and brought together like-minded crowds so they feel more comfortable among their own tribe.

Oh, absolutely, I was speaking more towards the visceral reaction to the information rather than any kind of mimicry.

He taught my sons karate at a Comic-Con. He was genuine and sweet and so passionate about martial arts. This is really sad.
-
That is heartbreaking. A genuinely cool and compassionate dude, RIP.

Science fiction author Greg Bear.

@Jennkryst This one hits far worse than usual.
-
I’m gonna have to run a one shot of the MMPR RPG in his honor.

Man, just proves that you can never tell what someone is really feeling inside. If there was anyone who seemed to have ‘made it’, it was him. I remember watching him on SYTYCD and he took off from there.

@TNP Ouch. Another one that hits me hard.
