The absolute assholes running for the school board just posted a picture from a family member who’s child doesn’t even GO to our high school shit talking specific admin and coaches by name.
And if I comment I become a target again AND amplify their message.
I’m so frustrated.

How is that professional? I can’t with school boards. I’m on the PTO board and we have this unspoken but common sense rule about how to conduct yourself/behave on social media. I’m always shocked when I see what other parents have to go through when dealing with school administrators and school boards.
-
School boards are been targeted heavily these last few years. We have a robust district community discussion group (over 5 figure membership level and all stakeholders welcome) and that has frequently weeded out the stupid people. Nothing like publishing a q&a written response questionnaire and seeing who never bothered to respond and which candidates are like “I’m unfamiliar with that.” On even basic things.
But that was organized after we had people with white supremacist/Christian nationalist ties run 2 cycles in a row. Good times.
-
Many school boards do have policies for how to comport themselves on social media, or at the very least agreements on how they will do so. Unfortunately, school board challengers aren’t held to the same standards because they aren’t school board members yet – and because the alt-right whackjobs running for school boards don’t care about policies, rules, laws, or societal norms unless they’re screeching about how being welcoming to minorities of any sort (besides themselves) impinges on their “religious freedoms.”

@mietze – I would love to have a community discussion group like that in our district, even if 5-figures would be the entire voter base of our district (or more). Getting people to engage with what’s going on with schools when they don’t have a problem is super-hard.

having a suspicion for a long while that people have been very dishonest with you/have been trying to make you feel bad in really underhanded, shitty ways.
even if it turns out not to be wholly true, it’s a lousy, exhausting feeling to have. I have had plenty of legitimate reasons to worry about my physical/mental safety from some truly awful monsters in my life and I’m just tired of dealing with petty people who can’t grow up who try the same tactics for astonishingly childish reasons.
