It’s November 4 in the northern hemisphere and it’s so hot my computer’s fan keeps kicking on to cool the machine down.
-
Fireworks. Ugh. Why can the public still buy them?

The only sound use of Twitter at this point is to roast marshmallows on its flaming carcass.
Let it die. Or become the next Livejournal, heh.

I don’t think this is appropriate for the RL Peeves thread because watching Twitter crumble has been pure joy for me. I suppose some people might feel differently…
-
A lot of artists make it their living by way of Twitter and are currently panicking about losing their livelihoods, so it can definitely fall under peeves!
-
@GF Let it burn.
@BurnNotice While still being sympathetic to this. Hope their dedicated fans refollow them on a saner platform.
-
@BurnNotice That’s fair. I hope they find a replacement platform quickly and seamlessly.

Ended up in the ER last night after not being able to keep down liquids, turns out it was most lively a reaction to the codine cough syrup the Urgent Care gave me.
General consensus from the ER and my doctorate-in-nursing sister in law is that the Urgent Care is fucking stupid for jumping straight to an opioid medication rather than doing something more gentle first.
Still have all the nice viral symptoms of coughing, general pain, post-nasal drip. But I can eat and drink again without tossing them up.
So win? Even though they recommended I stay home from work for a WEEK. I doubt my ability to do that.

This woman posts on Nextdoor every 5-7 weeks asking for free cat/dog food. I felt sorry for her for a while. Everyone struggles and needs help. Glad she was trying to feed her pets.
Then one of her pets died.
Then she got a new cat.
Then that cat got pregnant.
Then that cat had seven kittens.
Then she SOLD the kittens for $50 each without getting them fixed. (She could have surrendered them and not had to pay a penny.)
So knowing she had several hundred dollars extra from these kittens it pissed me off she was asking for free food again.
I commented “She asked for food a few weeks ago too.”
She FLOODED my inbox with all caps, called me a Karen and a troll, and how DARE I.
Then she deleted the post.
So nah sis. She just ensured I will absolutely post again, not just now when I’m annoyed.
(And to be clear, she COULD sign up for a pet pantry, and recieve supplemental food. This has been suggested on past posts. She won’t.)

After 2 months of illness rolling into each other, I have had one week of feeling well and now the 8 year old has stomach flu.
I’m struggling to not feel really depressed. Maybe it will lift in 48 hours if I’m not puking my brains out.
-
Warning - potential politics but not really but I can see it
I was looking at apple watches because I am an apple user (I know, I know). I am looking over the features of the Apple 8. I see ‘temperature sensing’ to which I cock my head and go dafaq? Then I go read it.
It is integrated to check a woman’s temperature to help with her ‘cycle’ information and to assist her with ‘family planning’. Or you know if her cycle stops for 4-12 weeks and starts up again. Or anything in between.
Can I just say hard pass? So I’m RL peeved that this is a thing.
Thank you for listening to my vent.

You can turn it off. There have been similar apps on the market for ages. The Apple 8 is just making it a bit easier to use. Obviously there are perfectly understandable reasons to not want it personally, but some people do. Someone trying fertility treatments, for instance, might find such tracking invaluable.

I have a recurring stress nightmare that I’m late (years late) for some job I quit but apparently did not quit the right way, so my employer can call me back in for a shift I no longer remember the location of.
I’m in a nursing home as I write this, on the psych ward, keeping someone company. One of the residents is a former nurse who does not know where she is or why, and is very distressed because she thinks she’s supposed to be working here but has gotten lost on her way to the unit she’s meant to be on.
It’s getting to me. It’s not frightening me or depressing me–I don’t know the right word for what I’m feeling as I watch this woman live my nightmare in her waking life, but it’s getting to me.

This is a whole lot more than a peeve, but oh my god, seeing Skywater’s Twitter account suddenly posting to quote retweet NFT bullshit because the account has clearly been stolen is just – Jesus Christ. Infuriating. I’ve reported it, but still.
Five years after her passing. She was a good egg.

Digital ghosts can be difficult enough to look back on. Digital necromancy is scummy as fuck.
-
@Roz Someone did that to the account of a dear family friend who died several years ago of aggressive brain cancer. It’s miles beyond awful.
Also I miss Skywater.

I wasn’t close with Skywater, so it at least didn’t have to be a horrible gut punch for me. But I ache for any of her close friends or family that might still have been following her on Twitter and had to see that.
Scummy as fuck indeed.

Lying to set leads, then getting mad at me for not closing them.
