nothing in that log is new or exciting. fun that you shared! definitely puts me firmly in the camp of āguy was bad vibesā. but man, itās so tiring all these gross guys behave the same way.
also, i gather swimmerskins are basically mermaids from a google. what does it mean to be a darkling swimmerskin??? are you ursula?

Thatās Captain Fraiser Crane of the USS Seattle from the TNG Episode āMaris Goes to Hollywoodā.

The tl;dr of CtL is that you have SEEMINGS, which are big categories, and KITH, which are specialized little roles.
Darklings are the spooky seeming: all shadowy and creepy and scary looking. Fairest are the too-pretty-to-be-real seeming. Beasts are furries. And so on.
So a darkling swimmerskin could be any sort of creepy mermaid. If I had to come up with one on the fly, Iād make a mermaid with an anglerfish theme, all long limbs and too-large eyes, and a mouth full of horrifically sharp teeth. If I were making an elemental swimmerskin, it might be a mermaid whose hair is flowing water and whose tail sparkles with ice crystals. And if I were making a wizened swimmerskin, I might go with the octopus-mermaid, but diminished in some way: tons of (well, eight) dexterous arms, incredibly nimble, but small and not very good in a fight.

Itās from a TNG episode called āCause and Effectā where the Enterprise encounters a Starfleet ship from the recent-to-them past (the āmovieā era where they had the red uniforms like this, you saw them in most of the TOS movie).

@Meg scawy mermaid
like those bad bitches that drowned narcissus (he didnāt fall in donāt believe the lies)
-
@hellfrog wow, narcissus caused his own suffering. donāt go blaming mermaids and spreading this conspiracy theory.
-
@Meg
They were jealous of his good looks and the fact that he already had a flower named after him -
@Meg you canāt take this from them!

I shared largely because I feel like reading their script has value. If you know the sort of keys to look for, you can deconstruct this behavior easily. You can watch him trying to gaslight me like heās following a textbook on how to gaslight people.
And itās very much of interest to me to show people that they are not alone when it comes to being targeted by creepers. He targeted me, and that was a poor choice on his part, and I cut his career at City of Glass quite short with my casual indifference towards his emotional manipulations. Because creepers arenāt targeting just you. Theyāre casting a wide net as they look for potential victims.
Also, itās valuable to report things to staff when things are just starting to get weird. One of the first things I did with this guy was ask @Roz if he was being creepy or if it was just me. She then advised me to use Aresā
pm/report Royal=###/Being creepy.
so that staff would have it on record. -
@Tributary you are definitely right. sorry, i didnāt mean it to come off like-- idk, you shouldnāt have shared or that it was just fun gossip to read. i do think seeing the patterns is good for the hobby!
i was just very /tired/ of players like that when i posted.
-
@Meg Iām not sure you came off that way, but I wanted to write that stuff out explicitly. Sort of to confirm how right you are. Like, this is what they do, this is their script, but there are options and there will be repercussions for them.
-
@Tributary I was actually the one that had been paging him right around when the rave started and asked him to show up, completely unaware that all this other stuff was happening in the background.
He told me that his date had ditched him and I assumed he meant Lucene, because RL had eaten her. Mind you, he never mentioned any of this other stuff to me. Iād only just started talking to the guy a few days before.
I will admit, after hearing what happened and him talking to me about his char, I had vague suspicions that he was that mage player that used to use Mind on female chars all the time. I think I might be wrong, though.
-
@RedJellyBean Ah, interesting! So that part wasnāt a lie. And yeah, Lucene was originally his date, and she āditched himā by blocking him on Discord and fleeing.
He did use Mind to read Aubreyās thoughts, yes. Does that sound about right?
-
@Tributary The guy Iām thinking of used to use Mind to coerce female chars to sleep with him. He played on Haunted Memories, if that helps. I cannot remember his name. Iām thinking itās not the same person, but just coincidental with them being Mage and leaning heavily into Mind for stuff.
Honestly, I didnāt get any red flags from him when talking to him, but, like I said, I had only started talking to him a few days ago and only did one scene with him.
I only wondered about the possibility of him being this other person after Iād heard what had happened.
-
@RedJellyBean I think youāre thinking of Jeurg (Juerg? I canāt remember the spelling) from Haunted Memories who I think got a reputation for that kinda weirdness. No idea if itās the same player though.
Mastigos and Mind Magic seems to be one of the common IC creeper covers. Theyāre meant to be confrontational and do awful things to make you think! Which can be a fine concept if handled properly oocly but I feel like a lot of weird folk have hidden behind it over the years.
-
Me, a Mastigos Mage:
I do find it kind of funny that our first three bans were all mage players, though.
-
@Tez Hee.
All the CoD stuff have spaces for creepy folks to hide behind āIām just acting IC!ā unfortunately. Iām sure a lot of game systems might. I donāt think I saw it in Mage more than anywhere else, but itās been ages since Mage was allowed in a lot of these games.
