Thank you BMD mods for making it easier to rubberneck and preserve this trashfire…I mean stay informed.

NGL the thing I’m trying to wrap my head around is this pile of refuse passing as a game not having a WORA/MSB thread prior to this.

RE: Topic Deletion Query and Feedback
I voted no due to the potential for abuse by bad actors but get why the Magicians guy deleted his post and think the kind of reception is worth reflecting upon.

I wish people didn’t always turn this into “if you’re not in action/plot its because you just prefer social things” that is honest far from the truth a lot of the time.
I was once told - by someone in control of plot stuff - that because I was a ‘social RPer’ and in a decent number of scenes (many of which I asked for) that I didn’t need plot involvement. It was a hell of a thing and like five years later I’m still mad about it.

RE: Why is Pack closing?
@Cobalt
Whatever worked or didn’t work about The Pack, I really hope the experience wasn’t too discouraging for you. Like I said lots of posts back, it DID seem like a game a lot of players responded to in positive ways, and I am really impressed with how you responded to an atmosphere that you didn’t feel good about being the gamerunner of anymore, because that was obviously really hard and Unfun to deal with this directly. I think it’s always constructive to reflect on why something didn’t work, or didn’t work for you personally, or get across what you wanted to get across, but I hope that doesn’t mean it was as wholly negative experience because you are a gamerunner lots of people like and respect and it’d be awesome to see another project from you in the MUSH space when you were excited to do it. -

I’m still pretty shocked Derp made up a multiparagraph theory wholecloth and tried so hard to sell it. Why? What was the benefit of that kind of speculation? I realize I’m speculating here, myself, but he’s more than welcome to come here and provide the answers.
That was the first moment I was sorry I was banned (apart from every time I try to find something on that mess of a board because the bad search is even worse if you aren’t logged in) because I would’ve enjoyed enthusiastically and repeatedly reporting Derp’s own post for violating his ‘you need to bring receipts’ and ‘no personal attacks’ rules.

RE: Weirdest Things You've Researched for MU*s
@Rathenhope
Spirit Lake was non-stop Googling small town infrastructure and businesses in Grand Lake, CO. I sometimes wonder if any tech people in that little town were ever like ‘Where the hell are these website hits coming from and why do they care about the high school marching band?’ -
RE: Bannings
Now the community seems fractured. Hopefully it is a problem that will fix itself.
I do think it’ll sort itself out in time. We’ve all been through lots of cycles on these many MU boards and for better or worse this doesn’t feel too different to me than the way the other ones came to be over the years. Not that it doesn’t bum me out, it’s a very niche hobby and having users scattered sucks just in terms of ease of use if nothing else, and the I feel for folks who’ve had actual strained or damaged personal relationships. It has been cool to see old names pop up here, though, you among them.
I’m not personally looking for any rhyme or reason to the bannings that went down in that thread, I doubt I’d find any answers I got non-aggravating anyway even if the MSB mods want to give them someday, so. So it goes.

RE: Good things in Mushing
I sometimes think that, for better or worse, I can’t possibly encounter people I’ve NEVER RP’d with anymore or shared game-space with. But sometimes I do, and not only are they new, they’re WONDERFUL, and that’s real nice.

RE: As a PLAYER, how many fellow players would be ideal in a shared game?
I may be the only person who voted for the same number they voted for in the ‘how many players do you want as staff’ poll? IDK. My answer is always ‘around 25-30 actual player bodies with sane alt limits’. Upwards of 50 or downwards of 15 are manageable for me but that’s the ideal.

RE: IC Consequences and OOC Acceptance
There’s an audience for PvP. I am not in it, but it’s definitely there.
I would like whatever PvP games exist to be really upfront about what they are so people can self-select in or out. I’ve been frustrated by environments that were ‘we’re PvE with these exceptions that are poorly defined.’ Beyond that it kind of feels like…not my circus, not my monkeys, so something I should opine on minimally, though I think works better when the rules around PC conflict are very well-defined and have strict staff oversight (and so these environments become more work to staff, not less).

RE: Pax Republica - Discussion
The game’s policies appear to have been updated so 16 years old is now the minimum (which doesn’t seem to really solve the problem) and also to entirely ban TS, which is a choice.

Go with God on enforcing this stuff, I guess.

@Roz said in IC Consequences and OOC Acceptance:
I can tell you that Arx has a rule about not being crappy OOC about bad rolls and that it definitely didn’t come about from nobody being crappy, lol.
My own experience on Arx was that this was as much because of people vibe-killing about their own rolls as the behavior of anyone toward them, though this may just be the scenes I was in. I was DEFINITELY happy that rule was there to get cited, for all that.

RE: IC Consequences and OOC Acceptance
I do think a lot of it comes down to trust. Ideal world. Many players occupy an unideal world where they throw fits if rolls go badly or if someone reacts poorly to them, but them aside.
I’ve played on games where character death was common (the old Greatest Generation being the example that lives largest in my mind) but it was also an accepted part of playing and the mechanisms by which it happened were fairly transparent and random. Lousy rolls killed you, in combat situations you’d opted into, in what was a PvE environment (so all the other PC soldiers were on your ‘side’).
There are GMs I wouldn’t play this level of risk with because I lack trust in them/enjoyment of what they’re doing, but in most cases I get a pretty clear vibe about this before things escalate to a point where I can’t just extricate myself from a storyline and/or quit. I tend to think I leave these situations pretty quietly when I don’t see it changing.

Yeah, this is the kind of stuff I’ve had to learn that you need to bring to staff attention when it happens. Even if it’s a “hey I’m not assigning blame here, I just feel weird about this,” then it can go a long way toward building an image of someone.
This is a lesson I feel like I’ve learned before but you can never internalize is enough (and I gave this guy a pass, so, oops on me). It is not actually mean or wrong to point out behavior that makes you uncomfortable. It is not actually mean or wrong to ask someone with the authority to do so to enforce some boundaries for you. Not every instance where this needs to happen is malicious on the ‘needs to clue up some’ part of the person doing it, but it’s important to trust your own instincts and to feel comfortable in a space you’re devoting your free time and energy to.

RE: An Arx Peeve Thread
Michael’s player always struck me as the sort of harem-builder that I always have a hard time pinning down whether they’re a “problem” or not. I don’t want to be judgy about people who are focused on TS, I can say ‘no’ and move on.
IDK, I’m 2-for-2 in ‘well this harem-builder I gave some benefit of the doubt to actually was a creeper to a problematic extent’ so.

RE: MU Peeves Thread
@Pavel
I’m primarily on Ares games these days but I still find the notifications and other quality-of-life features significantly better enough in client I’m almost always connected there. I find portal-only play very…I’m never sure how much someone solely there exists on the game at any given time? I’m sure ‘remember to check the thing’ is part of it. -

1 day later his player posts a MUSH peeve about being ignored in a scene.
