I don’t have room for a garden, so instead I grow bonsai trees on a wee shady balcony.

I don’t currently have any but I’ve been increasingly obsessed with learning about houseplants, so it’s only a matter of time. Except everything I love is toxic to cats.

@Floof Check out aquascaping there’s some really cool gardens you can do in fish tanks! Someday I want to do one. I bet it’s harder for cats to eat.

…but then you have a fish tank

This is lovely. I just got into a place where I can have a patio again, so I’m plotting some succulents.

I want something else to get me through this

I am so into this aquascaping idea. As soon as I stop spending money on tiny trees…

@tsar I’ve had fish tanks with live plants in the past! But I’m not sure I’m ready to go that route again. Especially since I don’t think I could resist getting fish. 😓

We bought our house about three years ago and when we’re not randomly needing to fix whatever ridic thing broke next, I try to plant something that’ll come back again next year. Here’s some of my dudes that are one year two or three, starting to really fill in.

Hopefully link works, thank you, link! Forgive the mess, whole patio is still kind of full of leaves due to having some gross weekends.

                    those are some good photos
                    The flowers are pretty, too!

This is wildly impressive to me. I manage to kill succulents so I can’t be trusted but IF I COULD. I would do this.

Omg I have SUCH yard envy! Those are gorgeous and I wish I could get stuff that pretty to live more than a month here, but FL.

My mother in NJ has tiger lilies that come back every year without much fussing. They bloom early-ish in spring, like March, and have been springing up every year since I was a kid, so I suspect they are low-maintenance perennials.

                            she/her, them/they - not super particular

I have been here the whole time

@Snackness I’ve done the fish thing! I had koi angelfish shipped to me. I bought guppies off of aquabid. I tried raising bettas. I knew way too much about plecos. I’m good. 🐠

Okay, maybe when I’m not renting again…

Yay plants! I also don’t have a yard… But I have a bunch of house plants. I’ve got 27 plants so far.

No bonsai or pretty purple flowers. I’m jealous.

This is my big orchid. It blooms every 3 - 6 months and makes me look like I know what I’m doing (I do not).

@Snackness what is the flowering plant in the white pot next to it called? I have one (that someone gave me) and have no idea of its name.

Also, your orchid is beautiful~! How do you not have a cat gnawing on it??

@KarmaBum It’s a type of kalanchoe, I got it from IKEA.

And my cat is old and dgaf (and the plants are up high).
