It really, really sucks feeling like it might be time to let go of something that’s been with you for a very long time.

Oof I feel this. I have a past MU* character that has haunted me since I stopped playing. It has made it hard to make progress on my writing projects because I keep trying to put this character into those works. Confronting this in myself brings up tough emotions. The idea of moving forward without doing honor to their incomplete story sparks unresolved grief and I’m just so tired of it.

Reminder to myself that after 15+ years in this hobby, I still dislike CGen.
-
@Testament A lot of newer games, and ares games have taken the horrible dredge out of CG though. Apply to a superhero game in the 2010’s and you had to have pages long details on powers, background, advantages, disadvantages, etc.
These days with rosters sometimes ready to pick up, it’s a lot nicer and quicker.

I like CG. Feel free to poke me if you want something CGed. The only part I hate is stats.
-
@Testament Along these lines. No matter how many years and how many games I have under my belt?
I get that first scene anxiety every time in a new game.
It’s like “What if I suddenly forget how to type coherently!?”

I’ll never recover from having done apps on a superhero game.

@SockMonkey I have, on more than one occasion, CG’d a character, played one scene, decided, “I suck,” and quit the game.
-
-
@Snackness I have been desperately trying to ignore this urge recently.

This is why I had this policy to approve new PCs as fast as possible and would try to round up everybody who wasn’t busy to get them in a scene right away. Mwahaha, Anxiety, you bastard, I’m not gonna give you enough time to build up!
Also 'cause B.F. Skinner says to make the reinforcers come fast to start.

Bruce Banner voice “That’s my secret, Captain. I’m always anxious.”

Coming up with a name is the worst part for me. I’ll think, overthink, then just throw my hands up and choose something like Claire. There’s always a Claire. Sometimes it’s me.
-
Hands up if you feel like you’ve just hit a complete wall with social RP (and don’t get me started about bar RP)?
This isn’t really a “particular character” or “particular game” scenario, either. It’s in general.
-
@SpaceKhomeini This hit me hard a couple years ago.
I have tons of scenes that are “social” in nature. Coffee shops, bars, shopping excursions, all that slice-of-life stuff. But not just endlessly in a loop.
We gotta be exploring something new or purposeful - whether that’s exposing a character flaw, chasing down a plot-lead, giving a couple PCs a break from a hard week, establishing what the vibe is between new toons, or just putting on our clown-shoes for a minute and getting silly.
I hope to never
:sips klah and laughs
again. -
@SpaceKhomeini I don’t believe social RP even exists. There is only interview RP: where one person talks about themself, only answering questions exactly as asked but never asking a question or responding to attempts the other person makes to talk about themself, until all that’s left is for the interviewer to run out of questions to ask and go do something else.
-
@GF CRY
These scenes are so frustrating. I’m asking you to tell me about your character! Give me something! A hobby, a pet peeve, SOMETHING I can riff off of.
Anything.
Please.
-
@SpaceKhomeini What kind of RP do you want to do?

After one of my long breaks from the hobby, any time I tried to app on a game… I would get terrible anxiety over starting chargen. Still do, tbh. I’m only comfortable doing chargen for FS3 based games these days.

I don’t mind the CGen process so much, weirdly, but I hate having to learn a whole new feckin’ series of commands. Because nobody standardises this shit. Every CG is a new nightmare of spaghetti strung together over washing lines.
Ares/FS3’s commands are simple and I get to do it on a form instead of figuring out how Faraday’s brain works, so it’s A++.
