So, in conclusion: Stay far, far away from this game is what I am taking away?
Asking for real:
Is it fair to paint the whole game this way if the problem is only with this one singular person, even if they are the headstaff?
From what I see above, literally everything negative has only been about Pika. Everything else on the game seems to be good to great. So why condemn the whole game if there’s just the one issue? Just avoid/ignore them and enjoy a great time.
If Pika runs mage and the other spheres have autonomy (one of the things that saves the game IMO), then just don’t make a mage. If the vamp and shifter and changeling spheres are poppin, then obviously there’s merit/value to the game. There’s a reason the mage sphere only has like 3 active characters (two of whom are staff characters), but all the others have 15+.
But the fact that the game has a built in firewall between Pika and the rest of the spheres is a great thing that suggest maybe the entire game shouldn’t be dumped on flippantly.

I’d say it’s very fair for people to not play on a game if they don’t trust the person with the largest amount of power on that game. Other staff aren’t “firewalls” between you and a head staffer; they can’t protect you from the person who’s in charge. It’s absolutely not the same as ignoring a regular player that you don’t like.
-
@Warma-Sheen I went to a chicken place ten years ago and got food poisoning I won’t describe here because even now it’s upsetting to remember the physical distress it put me in.
Not every cook at the restaurant prepared the meal that made me sick. The servers had nothing to do with it, nor the cashier. Most likely the people who weren’t on shift at the time had nothing to do with it, and I’ve no idea if management did. Maybe the supplier did and maybe they didn’t.
You could argue that by not going back to that restaurant, I’m unfairly punishing the people who had nothing to do with me spending hours doing, well, never mind what I was doing. But I don’t care. I don’t owe them my business after getting briefly hospitalized from eating their food.
Same general principle applies here. I doubt anyone has gone to the hospital because of Retromux, but so what? I’m not the means tester who decides how much suffering is appropriate for a given response. If people have a bad time and don’t feel safe playing there, then they have my full and unreserved blessing to go somewhere better for them. Life is too damn short.
-
@Warma-Sheen honestly if you can’t trust the owner or support what they stand for it’s simple vote with your feet. Logging on to a game for a head staffer you dislike or don’t think is safe is still supporting them.
Going there ups the player count. Meaning optics it’s a good game based on who. Which has been one of the ways we judge games. Active players=good game in the minds of many.
-
@GF god, i wouldn’t eat chicken for 10 years because i got the worst, worst food poisoning from an Arby’s chicken salad sandwich (i know, i made some bad choices. i was 20.) i developed a really bad sensitivity to chicken where my body was like ‘no this is the bad food!’
chicken food poisoning is the worst, and i am sorry.

@Meg Am I the only one who doesn’t watch something because an actor or actress is known to be terrible enough either talent wise or as an overall person? >.>

Maybe, maybe not. Others have discussed.
Frankly, though, I don’t care about fairness in this kind of situation. If it looks like a dumpster fire, I will avoid it even if it allegedly smells like patchouli.

Right, but the place doesn’t look like a dumpster fire. In fact, I don’t think anything negative has been said about the game itself, just Inuki and some other people that have since left. The game as a whole and what’s being run there sounds great.
But…

That I can understand. And agree with.
I just wish there was a clearer delineation between the two ideas, you know? The people who are there doing good stuff in MU*ing (in a tiny, tiny hobby) don’t deserve to get raked over the coals just because of who the headstaffer is. They can’t do anything about that. I’m sure they’ve tried. If they’ve managed to run a great game in spite of that, it is actually a credit to them. I just think that kind of thing gets missed under all the negativity.
But I do understand voting with your feet can be a major motivation and impetus for change. I get that people shouldn’t support bad behavior. Agreed.
-
@Warma-Sheen Everyone has different threshholds.
In my own experience, it’s not possible for one part of a game to be fine and the other not fine with no bleedover. But that’s just me.
ETA: ESPECIALLY if that problem is in any position of power.
-
@SockMonkey Not at all. I haven’t watched anything with Jared Leto since the whole “mailed dirty condoms to other actors” thing.

If it’s being run, in any version of that term, by a person I dislike, then I count that as a dumpster fire. It could be the perfect game oriented precisely to my wants and needs, but if it’s run by someone I can’t trust or don’t like, then it’s a terrible game.

While true, that’s a little like lamenting people not giving plaudits to the band playing while the captain of the ship is ploughing head-first into an iceberg made of poop. If the band want to have a great performance, they need to be in a better venue.
-
@Warma-Sheen has defended Inuki in the past on the other thread.
Everyone is free to make their own choices on if they wish to play this game or not.
One of the other staffers is or at least was Gailin of Arx.
-
You may be able to avoid the Mage sphere, but if inuki has characters in the other spheres it’s hard to avoid them.

Ah yes, the guy who got banned for asking female players for nudes.
ETA: Oh, and sending dick pics, I forgot Herja later mentioned leaving that off of the ban post.
-
Whoever this supposedly “fine” head staffer is, it seems like they are fine hiring some pretty questionable staff, as long as the leopards aren’t (yet) eating their face.

Right! The head staffer/owner of the game sets the culture of the game. If they’re a sex pest than chances are they will hire staffers that are sex pests or let sex pests get away with stuff on their games.
-
I mean, the fact that they thought, “I want to make a MU!” and three of the top picks on their Rolodex to help them were Polk, Chookitypok and Gailin from Arx is pretty damning.

Maybe sign?

@Roz Was that the guy who definitely didn’t romance a bear?
