I mostly use/used it as a resource to find answers to code questions and ignore it the rest of the time. Like with every other discord server I’ve joined.
-
I’m a dumbass for responding to NEET at all after they used a clown world emoji, but in my defence I only learned that’s a Nazi dog-whistle after I showed my phone (and the Discord exchange on it) to an RL friend of mine, who was immediately alarmed by it and pointed out a whole host of other dog-whistles throughout.
The far more transparent actual slurs should’ve been harder to miss, and addressed much sooner and more harshly. I don’t at all understand the idea of asking a person nicely to stop three times when it’s already clear they’re not there in good faith. Like why sit there and let them do this whole Jigsaw spiel, and have it drag out for a week while everyone else is made uncomfortable? That could’ve and should’ve been resolved within seconds.
Honestly this was the first time in my life I’ve ever found myself understanding their mindset that the people they’re there to harass are weak. You don’t debate these people, you shut them down immediately. WT-actual-F.

Oh Christ, that guy. I’m 99% positive he was briefly on a Discord for a dead WoD game I never bothered to leave. One day, he started complaining that the reason White Wolf failed as a publisher is that they donate more of their money than their books actually make to support queer charities, and ““joked”” that because of this, all queer people should die in a fire. When called on it, he both denied he was mocking anyone and said that people who call him out on it are the reason he mocks queer people, then dropped a bunch of mask-off slurs until he was banned.
-
God, I remember the MSB thread on Dreamwalk. That guy was ridiculous.
-
Yeah, “I also made Dreamwalk MUSH” was as far as I needed to read to go “ohhhhh, that asshole.”
I actually went and tried Dreamwalk until he had his little meltdown, it was bizarre. The game was legitimately a neat idea at first, but he was deliberately trying to create upsetting and offensive scenarios with it exactly as he described, to the point where it became clear that the entire premise of even making the game was just like…a cover for his real goal of trying to hurt people. There’s something deeply broken in that dude.
-
I didn’t know the guy had an MSB presence, so I looked him up. Here is his final post before banning, if anyone was curious. It was his 34th post on the board.

Man, I did not know that about clowns

Man, I did not know that about clowns
Well, knowledge is power, and I didn’t know either. I’ve purposely buried my head in the sand for the last couple years of nonstop depressing news coverage of various world events, and the unfortunate lesson from all of that is it means I’m now more easily taken in than I used to be.
Sooo … maybe I should be thanking this dude, because if I hadn’t had that recent experience on that server, I wouldn’t have had the receipts to show a friend who pointed out the many red flags I missed, and wouldn’t have been prompted to read up and refresh my dangerous-and-psychotic-conspiracy-nut radar. Internet culture and lingo, including theirs, moves fast.
A few clicks through related reading on the link I posted above led me to this handy resource, for anyone else who deems a refresher course important.

Thanks for that link. I’d assumed this was Tyche or whatever loser has been banned from MSB a hundred times now for the same shit, but I’m sure there’s more than one. And alas I’m apparently not myself immune to bigotry, because they all look the same to me.

Tbh I was fairly certain at the time that it was all just one person or at most two, including Tyche, Rick Sanchez, and demiurge/neetzche/whatever. I still wouldn’t be surprised to find out that was the case. They all had some basic technical aptitude, they all skirted offensive shit for as long as they could in the exact same way, shared the same kinds of memes, talking points, etc before devolving into outright hatespeech. All of the accounts in the same pattern, over and over again.
Just seems like one incredibly lame person with too much time on their hands and possibly some untreated mental illness.

Thanks for the refresher. I learned a few new ones today.

I am half tempted to join, if for no other reason than to be able to annoy another group of people about ‘this is my latest obsession, plz code mush before I move onto the next obsession in ADHD fashion, kthxbai’
-
I’m half-tempted to join just how fast I can get deliberately banned but I keep telling myself I’m not that person anymore.

Actually I just realized that self-identifying as a NEET is another low rent internet Nazi signifier. Holy shit. I’ve seen this before but never put two and two together until now.

Is it? That’s a new one for me.

Yeah, I encountered a particularly nasty one a while back that was really trying to lean into the “oh woe is me I have no prospects and am an adult manchild ok i’m gonna be a fascist now” routine and honked that particular horn a lot.
Also I knew another guy in a small internet community who eventually got put on a wagon out of town. Mind you, I’m not a professional researcher of these folks but I remember what I see.
-
@SpaceKhomeini See, I did the woe is me no prospects adult manchild thing, and I became a socialist (or social democrat or… something lefty and ineffective) instead.

The hardest of sames, here.
