@kalakh oh damn, I think I remember exactly what you are talking about, lol. I feel like players fall on a spectrum between being so uninvested in NPCs that genocide is fine and being so invested in them that we are having to field uncomfortable questions about NPCs and situations involving them. I feel like being too far on either end of that spectrum is trouble.
-
Well, that took a rather unexpected turn from what I was expecting, what in the actual hell.
-
Idea - do the nautical/aircraft thing and replace ‘men, women, and children’ line with ‘souls’, because it ups the edge factor further. How many people died in the attack? One-hundred thirty-eight souls were killed’.
As for people who want to genocide or murder kids that like… are more than just a ‘my REAL WORLD child is annoying me today, I must vent’ (which… fair), City of Hope WyrmSphere is right over there, and… I dunno if there is a Star Wars game where they can do Empire things, actually. Obligatory plug for a new FFG game or something.

Oh, I really like that switch.

For me, this kind of thing gives me flashbacks to Firan and the Kinslayer War when Steph did world emits of the royal children being slaughtered in their cradles. It was overly graphic and horrendous and to this day I see no value in how staff relished in the portrayal of it. I’m more than happy that Arx staff have drawn a line.
-
Yeah. ~Firan~.

Makes you long for the days of our lost youth, when edgelord villainy consisted of inappropriate cackling, drinking blood from a skull, and trading in infectious cannibalism wine.
-
Yes, really, anything that sounds like it wasn’t pitched by Anakin Skywalker shortly before he went to “visit the younglings”.
-
-
@Solstice Just waiting for the Clone Wars game where I can be a Jedi with a crisis of conscience over how we just up and murdered a whole army of droids who were just freshly assembled/programmed, and is that really that different from killing child soldiers?

Feudalism: maybe look it up in a dictionary or something.

History is lame. It can teach us nothing.
-
Historically speaking, this is true!
ETA: Because no one ever seems to learn the lessons of history.
-
@Narson I mean real history can’t teach us fuck all about arx but if you’re going to play a noble in a feudal society you should probably at least be minimally aware that your character is not in fact themselves a tenant farmer on someone else’s land

I’m a bit sad that leather armour has less of a purpose in the non-coded combat (and wow am I slow at this - these changes are old). I mean, the armour system in general has a few opaque parts to it (such as accessories etc) and I never really tried to master it. But it was nice when there was this choice.
-
@Narson I do wish there was a bonus to dodge rolls for wearing lighter armor. I say this with complete code ignorance but the vaguest idea that trying to account for that would probably be a giant pain in the ass.

I’d say that you could give folks different difficulty if they’re in leather vs armor (vs the magical stuff like steelsilk), but – it’s also pretty common for PCs to have a mix of any or all of the above.
There is some sort of calculation going on to assign characters a “Dodge Penalty” value that I imagine could be used in a coded manner, so I imagine it’d be more of just finding that balance. I’m also pretty code ignorant, but I suspect it wouldn’t be too terrible. There’s something in there to look for specific roll combinations for stuff like knacks, which would probably be another part. But someone would have to invest the time.
