Clicked, but did not scan - and then got the link again from another friend of mine.
Changed password just in case but- ugh.

I have it as a personal policy to never accept any Discord links unless I’ve already discussed the idea with someone previously.
This is horribly rampant in the MMO spheres. I’m an officer in a 2k player ESO guild, and this is a consistent thing, where we have to tell players that they should go reset all their passwords.
Not really sure why MMOs get hit as hard as they with this stuff, but I’m not all that surprised it’s starting to move around mush types areas now too.

When I was much younger I fell for one of those phishing emails that told me I got into the Wrath of the Lich King beta for WoW. I was super embarrassed and had to tell my mom because I didn’t know how to get everything back.
Scammers evolved with the times I guess.

@Dreampipe Yeah, back when I used to play Guild Wars 2, I almost got suckered for something similar. But that was through in-game mails and me, being the idiot that I was and looking real hard to make more gold than I had as a poor newbie player, until a guildmate was like ‘wtf are you doing, don’t do that’.

Nooooobody should feel bad about falling for this, seriously. The scammers are clever, and brilliant people fall for this stuff all the time. I posted the heads up because it’s really easy to click when something like this shows up from somebody you trust, and not everybody is paranoid about this shit. No guilt or shame or anything! Seriously.
That said, if anybody got hit with this and needs assistance recovering, feel free to reach out via DM and I’ll do my best. Several of the people I saw get hit recovered pretty quick, so we should be able to get it figured out together without too much drama.

I’ve seen a university email system go through shuddering throes of pain because faculty have clicked on something similar. It’s not about being ‘smart’; these guys rely on exploiting flaws in the human perceptual hardware - all that’s necessary is that they catch people at the right time when 100% of attention is not being paid to something that seems minor and random and then wham.

Hey, Pyre.
Click this:
Go on, click it. Should be easy, right. CLICK IT.
-
@IoleRae Agree.
I didn’t get it because I don’t have any discord friends (#lifehack), but someone the other day sent me an invite to a server with no other information and I clicked it. It was legit, but it’s the same thing. Didn’t occur to me to suspect anything.
-
@Tez I could click it if I wanted to! I just…don’t wanna.
-
@Pyrephox I clicked it and now I’m a robot.
