@crawfish LOL. I was Lirra / Lark there, one of the Old Guard players that was there during beta. It was my first foray into MU’dom. I started playing somewhere around 1993 and ended about 1996. The MUD was created by students who graduated from my college 1 or 2 years before I started going there; Raph & Kristen Koster.
Raph & Kristen went on to help develop Ultima Online and then later Star Wars Galaxies, and Raph is the author of ‘A Theory of Fun’. He’s at SDCC this weekend talking about gaming
The game is actually still going! Under different staff though.

As a fellow dinosaur I know them feels. I started with Glass Dragon in 1991, then moved to Wheel of Time RP MUDS in 1992 and graduated to MUSH’s after that in the same year.
Fond memories of some MUD’s honestly. Some coders put a lot of work to make RP tools on some of them.

I too was on LegendMUD back during the Kosters’ reign. I miss those days, not going to lie. Kristen became a good friend.

Cuendillar was my first MUSH, transitioned over from Wheel of Time RP MUDs. Haven’t looked back.

Tales of Ta’veren was my first MUSH, and boy was that an adjustment period. I distinctly remember thinking MUSH commands were weird. I still have a partial log from there, too!

I’ve currently taken a break from gaming because in November I was told that I have stage 1A cancer, so I’ve been focusing on RL and myself for the time being. I tried out one game, very, very briefly, and didn’t feel I could give it any time or energy with the medical stuff going on. HOWEVER, I finished my last chemo treatment today so that’s some good news. I still have about 3-4 months to go with surgery and another surgery recovery, and who knows after that. Maybe I’m done with chemo, maybe they want another round.
The important part is I’m hanging in there and around, and once I have the energy to do something other than be a couch potato I’ll join the gaming and GMing world again.
