I’m on a Supernatural kick atm, so of course I voted Angels and Demons. That said, I can see icky af behavior emerging with the sing song excuse of “but omg in a demon I’m SUPPOSED to be bad tehe” - and you deserve a break after that shiz on The Pack.
I was actually throwing the idea around of doing an invite only adult-themed w/ metaplot game, but decided it would be exhausting to have to vet everyone.
If you want to do this you could just invite your friends/people you have had good experiences with. There is no reason you need to let every which person on because they asked to join. If it is a deal breaker for them to not be able to have X friends with them, they can make the choice not to join.

So say an angel has a ban of “must not kill an innocent”, and they accidentally crush an innocent human while fighting a demon. They “fall” and become a demon.
A demon, on the other hand, would have a ban of “must not render aid without payment” and they save a human from being killed by a serial killer and don’t ask for payment in response, they “ascend” back to being an angel.
Then they also have a goal that will get them allowed back into their paradise. Something like for an angel: “redeem a truly selfish soul” or for a demon “corrupt a truly selfless soul”.This is a cool idea! What happens to an angel or demon who flips on accident but wants to return, do they get a reverse ban they’d need to break or are they stuck? If it’s something reversible, what are the consequences for someone who deliberately flips back and forth frequently? Or someone who comedically trips back and forth on accident all the time? Lol.

I voted Soap Opera.
I never watched them. But I know they could get pretty barking mad, and I love me some barking mad as a player or GM.

I would be 100% down for a '60s-era pulpy spy thriller game. Lean hard on the zany concepts played totally seriously.
But then again I’d love a Danger 5 MUSH, so
Oh yeah, definitely play it straight. More ‘Our Man Bashir’ than Austin Powers.

Don’t must Mu*'s end up being part soap opera? Love triangles, crime lords, romance, secret relationships, extramarital affairs, genuine hate, having kids, and if you are lucky and it’s a game with rules to do some action, you might ALMOST do something related to that actual ruleset.

I love the idea of Angels and Demons… but I also hate the idea of certain other people who would love Angels and Demons for all the bad reasons…
-
@Pavel Yeah, 100% get that. I’ve still got some moving to do before I can think about putting something down, but once we get moved over I’m going to grab my In Nomine book to sort of glean some ideas from.
And maybe put out feelers see if anyone wants to help me build it. If not! On to the next idea.
-
Kudos for bouncing back pretty quickly. Hope your move goes well!

@Cobalt Angels/Demons might be a particularly difficult slope, as with anything involving religion you have your cool people - but there are the extreme people and you might have to address some level of homophobia, transphobia, or well any other phobias and such.
While the majority of players are likely fine, after all we’ve had shows like Angel and such now. It only takes one weirdo to ruin a day.

@CuriousGamer if I need to ill post this image on my theme page.
And I may take the Facebook group approach of in the app put a list of things you gotta agree to a list of questions along the lines of:
You agree not to be sexist, racist, homophobic, or transphobic OOC and not to push storyline involving these elements onto the game.
-
Will there be a Demon: The Descent-style go loud option? I’m all for a sudden shift to horror as a mess of wings and eyes yells “BE NOT AFRAID”.
Imagine the need to experience sheer terror, but being unable to, because not doing so has been commanded of you.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but those kinds of warnings / questions on an app don’t really do much to deter people from being awful. It’s honestly going to require a lot of oversight and very very specific theme files and even then you’ll still going to get assholes.
-
@bear_necessities Yea, I do know that. I’m only going to commit to the idea if I have people I trust to help back me up.
-
@bear_necessities If people act poorly, just fire them into the fucking sun.

@Pavel Well I mean yes but @Cobalt said she was tired of playing whack-a-creeper with the last game and this seems ripe for another round lol
Then she can hire me. I like playing.
-
@bear_necessities I understand your concern and appreciate your acting as a voice of reason. When I’m done moving I’m gonna ping a few people I trust and see if they have the free time/energy to help me out.
If not the idea will go into the bin. I know it may seem like I’m running full tilt at windmills, but I’m not committed to anything yet.
I’ve heard some support for the soap opera game but I have mild concerns about creepers there too.
The post apoc game will require research to be done so the science isn’t just terrible. God’s Mall may feel too similar to Keys.
They all have different drawbacks. I just like workshopping ideas in the moments when I can escape from tripping over boxes and my family members.

I will say that “I must go, my planet needs me (Poochy died on the way back to his home planet)” is a fairly common trope in soap operas due to actors not getting contracts renewed and the writers needing to bail quickly on any storylines the character was involved with. It won’t stop creepers, but it might make dealing with the aftermath as soon as they are expunged easier.

There’s always going to be creepers, no matter the genre, the playerbase, or whoever is running the place. Creepers are people, if you have people you’ll eventually get creepers.

Either that or “this character is suddenly being portrayed by someone else, with completely different hair.” (And hopefully a completely different understanding of good taste and boundaries)
