Gosh, all this ‘great setting, handwobble mechanics, extremely suspect policies’ is really making me want to load up the virtual machine and try to headbutt that Evennia FFG code into submission again.

Clear rules.
Ability to run plots with minimal hassle.
I think it comes down to whether the game runner is emotionally intelligence or toxic in their approach to running the game. Everything follows from that.
@L-B-Heuschkel I’m not surprised I’m not the only one they said this to if it is the same person.
This took place some time between 2006-2008 so, honestly, all I can say is I hoped they worked on their marriage or they both found spouses they were more compatible with.
Reminds me of the time someone accused me of causing their husband to threaten divorce (because the player spent too much time MU*ing, I think?) because I had to quit a scene before we started due to rl on my side.
I was like, well, that’s an unfortunate situation but that is not on me.
This is why I like Ares (and will probably never play on a non-Ares game again). It’s so much more inclusive for people who can’t log on for solid 3-4 hours every night or a couple of nights a week.
I mainly ask for rp. I tend to suggest scenes on the local rp channel or put up a post looking for people with PC interested in similar activities.
Worst response when trying to set rp up: We have NPCs for that.
Every PC could be an NPC.
Close runner up: I saw your post - get in touch about rp if you want.
I told you what I want to do. What do you want to do.

If I banned everyone that was a problem, no one would be here playing.”
If this was actually said, that’s lol. lmao.
Can’t imagine why

Having to pretend that meetings that have marginal use are actually useful. Meetings that don’t serve the purpose they are designed for.
And then when I raise it with my boss she gets annoyed because “they’re good for background”. What’s better is having time to deliver what I need to do or meetings that are useful for what I do, not listening to a colleague bore on about projects I’m not involved with and will never be involved with.
To add to what @KarmaBum is saying, speaking personally, what creates an atmosphere of trust is how people communicate at all times. Some people might not like it, but I prefer it when staff (or players I’m contacting for the first time) are friendly but polite with everyone publically.
Ultimately players need to put themselves out there and Be The Change They Want To See
.
Nothing doing? Run something. People will probably turn up. If they don’t, you’ve found a threshold for what the community enjoys and you can decide whether it’s the community for you or not.
@Jennkryst I don’t know the rules well enough, I’m afraid. If no-one else here knows, someone on the FFG subreddit probably will.
I’d love it if someone read the background of one of my characters.
I love running plots around backgrounds and exploring obstacles players want their chars to face.
@Artemis Your peeve doesn’t have to be shared by multiple people to be valid.
