I’m frustrated sometimes by it feeling like it’s being implied I don’t do enough to facilitate the hobby for people in other timezones.
But then I try to remember it’s not really about me personally.
I think about this a lot as well. As I said before, when I started to do more, run more events, build more lore, and just generally being more available for players, I actually got pushback from various people that I was doing too much and that it was getting too busy.
It was then that I realized while I intended on creating a game that moved slower with the goal to eventually have something that sustained itself with it’s playerbase, that wasn’t likely to happen soon as plenty of people have stated that they like how things move at a snail’s pace. I admit, I was not expecting that, but I also don’t have a huge problem with. Then again, I want to also create something that caters to more folks, giving them a chance to enjoy things too.
It is a weird, difficult balance to try and maintain. Speaking for myself, I’ve only had middling success. If I could have things less async, I would, but perhaps not until later.

My thanks to all the cooler heads in here.

How fast or how slow a game runs isn’t an indicator of quality one way or another, on its own. I think my question(s) to you, as the gamerunner, is this:
Is this the game you want?
Are you having fun?

Meanwhile, I just live where we have to routinely grease all of the streetlamps to stop everyone from climbing up them.
I assume this is done by your minions to give your victims fewer places to run.

@tsar I’d say yes to both of those things, and I feel like the players would say the same, especially when I have asked for feedback. My creativity means nothing in a vacuum if there’s no one to talk to about it.
I realize that speed of things is not a large indicator on the success or failure of a game, but it is something I consider a good amount. As much as I may enjoy myself, I still live with paranoia of not doing enough or that someone’s needs are not being met.

Yeah, I totally get that. I think there’s probably a healthy medium between breakneck and snail’s pace, but that’s entirely dependent on the comfort of you and your players.
Just repeatedly editing my posts today. Naps are needed.

Yeah, well, I live in Argentina, where inflation, recession, and political upheaval are our natural disasters.

The lack of OC-only Superhero games frustrates me.
Like I guess I understand why people want to play their favourite comic book characters (it’s the sex, right? <_<) but that scene just isn’t for me. I want to play my own character, not be confined to someone else’s. But playing an OC on a game full of actual comic book characters makes it reaaally hard to break in or, y’know, feel like you matter at all.
I mean I suppose maybe there just isn’t much demand. Honestly I’m not even sure myself why I want to play a superhero game to begin with. Maybe I just want a contemporary and/or near future setting that isn’t all dark and cynical? So if you guys know of a place like that I’m all ears.
-
@Sammich I can’t play my favorite superheroes. I wanna play my OWN superhero! I second this peeve.

It always feel like the audience for supes games is so much players who want to play the comics characters, which sucks as someone who doesn’t but does think the world-saving adventures and powersets would theoretically be fun.
-
@Sammich You might have luck asking around the MASKS community—it’s a popular rules-lite ttrpg about being a superhero, and I’m sure there are folks there who have similar interests. Idk if there’s a MU* that does what you want, but there’s probably decent forum/discord RP.
-
@Sammich I’d play on such a game.

Yup, I am intensely with you on this. Plus — picking up a pregenned history and personality just feels a little bit like work to me. This is probably why I’ve never really tried too hard to go roster somewhere.
-
@Third-Eye I’m a way bigger fan of OC superhero games (which is where we first met!). I’ve only ever stomached FC/OC games out of necessity because I like having superpowers that much.
And I legit dislike when game runners throw the whole kitchen sink in. Pick a lane. None of this DC+Marvel nonsense.

i hate to tell you this, but x-factor was FC/OC. just that a lot of the FC options from the x-men movies weren’t really accessible due to when the game was set.
unless you met third-eye on a TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAME THAN I THOUGHT in which case you can ignore me
-
@Roz well as long as you hated to tell me this

i HATED it. every moment. i just couldn’t live with myself.

My only experience I’ve had with FC/OC super based games is the fact that OC supers tend to get overlooked compared to FCs. Which sure, I suppose that’s to be expected. But at the same time a purely OC super game would be pretty fun. I suppose it’s a me thing, being wholly unable to play an already established character. And I’ve noticed it specifically only happens on super games.

Just saying, Arx doesn’t allow you to app OCs, Lord of the Rings characters, and/or Game of Thrones characters.
