@Cobalt “Divine Mall Limbo” sounds like what people have explained the old D&D game Planescape as being like to me, so I’m real interested to see how popular it is.
-
I’m on a Supernatural kick atm, so of course I voted Angels and Demons. That said, I can see icky af behavior emerging with the sing song excuse of “but omg in a demon I’m SUPPOSED to be bad tehe” - and you deserve a break after that shiz on The Pack.
The other one that I really liked was the Dimensional Mall one. It reminded me of a LiveJournal/Dreamwidth rp I played for years called Milliways (based off the Bar at the End of the Universe in Douglas Adam’s Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy.) You could be any character from book-movie-comic-video game (basically, anything published by not-you.) You would come into the bar either willingly (an established portal), or the bar could randomly kidnap you (think you are entering Krogers and HAHAHA, bar.) At the bar you could have a residential area and the area continually grew as plots were rolled out. (My most memorable was a slenderman one). You could also take characters not in your genre back to your world and play out stuff there. Very soapbox-y. If you fucked around and the mods had to ban you then the bar would just shut that interation of the character out and the character would open up to a new player from a new dimension - automatic clean slate.
Anyway, thank you for letting me wander down memory lane.

I am with @junipersky about the demon and angels one. It is a cool idea but I think you would get a similar experience to what you got on The Pack.
The soap opera one has me wanting over the top story lines like Days of Our Lives have. Or what ever the day time soap operas are called.
I am not really sure which would be most interesting to me. Maybe the mall one too.
-
@icanbeyourmuse Even Days had a demonic possession plot back in the 90’s! Bring on the crazy plotlines. I would totally make someone who’s show persona is a plastic surgeon who keeps change people’s appearance so they can return after death, invariably with amnesia and end up falling in love with their own brother/sister/uncle/mailman, etc…
-
@Cobalt Jokingly pulling out a bunch of science books to find out that IF the sun were to wink out of existence and later be replaced by a red giant, how long would it take Earth to go from it’s current orbit to one that is big enough to not get eaten by said red giant.

Looking forward to the plot with the twin sister thrown down the well by the rich landlord trying to turn the hospital into a parking lot, and everyone is pregnant with everyone’s babies.
-
@Jumpscare Don’t forget about the surprise siblings and the evil twins.
-
@Jennkryst Without the earth to hold us in place the earth would begin drifting at 18miles per second.
This idea requires suspension of disbelief, because typically habitable planets… are not really around red dwarves. Or they are tidally locked and only one bit of the planet is habitable.
-
Is the mall… still open? Is there a food court? Is there a Hot Topic? Please elaborate.
-
I’m definitely not the target audience for any of these but I am intellectually curious about how the Angels and Demons game would play out. If everyone is an angel or demon and the game focuses around interacting with humans in order to fulfill their goals, it sounds like most meaningful action will be executed against NPCs.

@Cobalt Gotta keep pumping out those greenhouse gasses so we can retain as much heat from the colder solar output. Who knew that climate change would somehow save the world?
I’m just flailing silly dumb ideas because I absolutely want to make a climatologist from the before times… the long-long-ago, trying to figure out if there is any way to stop turning everything into an iceball.
Edit to add - Habitable planets and red giants… or red dwarves… are not typically around them on a galactic timescale. 60 years is a blink of an eye, earth can be gradually becoming tidally locked and become an iceball, but not for another million years, so won’t affect gameplay. The planet can maybe be kept warm with greenhouse gases, but oh god the different spectrum of sunlight is a killer.
I have way too many ideas from this, I might just overconfidently volunteer for plotstaff shenanigans lets goooooo

Damn, modern-day soap opera getting no love.
-
Honestly, I liked the modern day soap opera idea a lot. It was a toss-up between that and the Mall at the End of the Universe. I ultimately chose the Mall because what interested me about the soap opera one was ridiculous storylines about evil twins and financial malfeasance, not the behind-the-scenes stuff of actors doing work. So that’s like half the setting that I had no real interest in.
Not mentioned in the list, but damn would I like some kind of Spycraft MU. Everyone is an Agent or works for the Agency. More 1960s crazy mad science trying to take over the world with frickin’ mind control lasers than modern slick spy stuff.
-
@STD Spycraft obligatory Demon the Descent when
-
The Angels and Demons theme reminds me of In Nomine, which I used to play with my high school bestie. So nostalgia wins for me.
For the Divine Mall Limbo, would that overlap with Keys too much? I ask this not to poo-poo the idea (obviously the idea of portal-hopping, play-anything in time has been very successful for them considering the popularity of the game) but because I wonder if that will end up bothering you over time.
-
I can’t seem to vote in the poll for whatever reason but I’m going to go with ‘none of the above’. For one, most of these themes seem incredibly similar to games that already currently exist. Angels & Demons seems to be a ripe place for problematic behavior if you don’t have the time & energy to monitor for creepers. And while Divine Mall Limbo sounds like a kinda funny movie concept, what exactly would your characters do?

I would be 100% down for a '60s-era pulpy spy thriller game. Lean hard on the zany concepts played totally seriously.
But then again I’d love a Danger 5 MUSH, so

I was actually throwing the idea around of doing an invite only adult-themed w/ metaplot game, but decided it would be exhausting to have to vet everyone.
I’m really sort of interested in the Angels vs Demons idea, but I’d need to find some people to help me with it so I’m not playing whackamole all by myself, lol.
I’d also probably have to put in big, bold letters everywhere that the game would be sex positive-- as long as sex is consensual and doesn’t break some other ban it isn’t anything that would be considered “bad”. God doesn’t care about sex. That was human’s influencing his words.

A current thought is that when people are approved they will be assigned an NPC human that they can interact with and somewhat control, but will need to work with staff for permanent changes.
Angels and Demons will be created with a Divine or Infernal Goal. This will be a major thing that will require a lot of work to do, that will allow them to return victorious to either hell or heaven.
They will then a ban, which is a string of actions that once done they will either ascend or fall.
Angels would be in three hosts: Messengers, Guardians, and Warriors.
Their divine goal will be related to the type of angel they are.
The same goes for demons, who will be in one of the following hosts: Deceivers, Corruptors, Destroyers.
Players who want to can be assigned to the same NPC human. And can RP out cooperatively the back and forth from attempting to corrupt or redeem/save their human.
-
@Cobalt hundred percent angels and demons. oh my god yes i am instantly obsessed.

If you want to do this you could just invite your friends/people you have had good experiences with. There is no reason you need to let every which person on because they asked to join. If it is a deal breaker for them to not be able to have X friends with them, they can make the choice not to join.
