An Arx Peeve Thread

Feeling aimless. My own lack of inspiration, nothing about the game, just me having no idea how or where to direct my player-bits
-
Fun fact: I did not at all read player-bit literally. I took it metaphorically.
I have a bad brain.
-
Please be mindful of where you choose to be sexual/overly flirtatious during public events. It can be extremely off-putting to people co-habiting a place with your group, especially if they’re new to the game. Keep your amorous behavior to appropriate settings!
ETA: I can’t figure out how to remove the repy to the person above me part, so I’m sorry if anyone thought I meant them. Totally not junipersky!

An action response gave me the opportunity to snatch up an NPC, to get outside my comfort zone and fill a much needed vacancy because [SPOILERS] had been brutally [SPOILERS] ages ago and [SPOILERS] needed a new [SPOILERS]. I haven’t stepped into a headspace like this before, I’m excited. EXCITED! I’ve still got the holiday lethargy because life doesn’t stop while I’m happy about new RP ideas.
But then I realize I’ve gotta make him clothes.
NNNNGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
-
@crawfish I felt this in my chest.
-
@Pax IT’S A CRISIS.
-
Y’know, I have all sorts of generic descrip files on the home computer for stuff like armor and clothes I can send what I have when I get back home.
-
@crawfish Don’t need to make clothes if they run around naked.
-
@Jennkryst THAT WOULD BE INAPPROPRIATE but the thought did cross my mind

I do still want to RP, but I don’t feel like I want to rp with any particular character development in mind. Like, I want to make characters, use them for a little, and then watch them burn up when they are no longer useful.
But that goes against all I know about PCs.
-
@junipersky Sounds like you want to create lore or theme as opposed to RPing characters?
That’s not a bad thing, mind. I love to create lore.
-
@Testament
Basically. But I don’t feel like I am integrated enough anywhere to do things like this. -
A self peeve here and not a fault of the game: Often I will see some dude alone in a public room with his “looking for RP” flag on. I really enjoy meeting new people but I often won’t go over to him, because I’m afraid that flag means “I’d like to meet a cute girl or maybe a bro” and not “I’d like to RP with this random gay guy.”
I have had some poor experiences trying to RP with straight dudes when no one else is around, I don’t know if they think I’m going to come on to them or what (I am certainly not!). And I’ve also had some good experiences! And not every dude with a LRP flag on is even straight probably! But it’s the bad times that stick out to me and sometimes I get stuck and afraid to meet new people because of it.
I wish I could get unstuck and trust “dude looking for RP is probably just looking for RP” a little more.

@imstillhere Sort of related, maybe? I usually play guys. And I get some of my strangest receptions from other guy characters. I sense they’re either put off by me playing polite or friendly dudes, or there’s this strange undercurrent of competition directed my way. It’s not all the time, by any means, but I’ve for sure noticed. It makes it difficult to find friendships or connections sometimes.
-
@tsar I think you just described contemporary masculinity.
-
I don’t know that it is exclusively a guys with guys thing. women do it too. Though, I’ve found some females tend towards doing actions to ‘mark their territory’ more than some men do.
If your guys (Icly and OOCly. I don’t really care the genders OOC. I just refer to person as their IC gender OOC unless told otherwise) want guys to ‘feel safe’ around. Aleksei, Ingvar, Valdemar, Vitalis, and Preston are the ones I can think of off the cuff. I’m sure there are more but I’m bad with names and not the most invovled.

@imstillhere as someone who plays a dude on Arx (Edris) if I’m sitting with my flag on in public it means I wanna RP. I have amazing fun RPing with PCs that have absolutely no romantic or sexual connotations at all (and in fact to be honest if I don’t know you chances are I’d prefer that anyway for the first scene, regardless of gender).
But I get it. On PC elsewhere sometimes I have worried that the reason why people don’t respond much to requests for RP is because they’re worried that my female PC is only looking for a fuckbuddy and they’re not interested so why bother. On other places I’ve definitely worried about that a lot (or worried about someone getting crazy because they assume that’s what I’m doing with their RP partner). It’s hard to overcome.
I don’t much sit in public these days on Arx because I have only had short bursts of viable playtime and sitting around for a long time with only crickets makes me feel sad so I don’t do it when I know I have limited energy. But at least with Edris I’ve found male PCs regardless of orientation really fun and game to RP regardless if they want to be flirty or not (with the exception of one, but after observing his behavior in other scenes I’m pretty sure it’s because he always focuses on one pc and pretty much ignores everyone else so it’s totally not personal). I have run into issues where people seem annoyed if he’s not responding to overtures in the way that they want because he’s not interested, but even those have been a LOT milder and better than I’ve experienced turning people down elsewhere. I’m sure a lot of it is luck, but also I know that there’s a lot less tolerance for that kind of weirdness.
