Justin O. Schmidt, the entomologist responsible for the Schmidt Sting Pain Index (link to exerpt) died in February. He was a capital fellow and had been ill for a long time and it just now occurred to me to check up on him. Ow.

@GF i think the situation surrounding the social media kid who appears to have been supporting her family might be a hoax. Fake deaths on social media for attention and sympathy have been a thing on the internet for awhile. Hopefully that’s what this is and the children can get the help they need and parents face consequences if need be. But if it is in fact true then I feel bad for that little girl. Hell I feel bad for her even if its not true.

@Pavel yeah i have a feeling that there’s a couple of layers involved and the story will change a few times since i guess there is an also very nasty custody dispute going on. We won’t know what actually happened though because interest will be lost in a couple of days.
I’m not wild about the conditions for child actors but at least there are inadequate minimal protections. People who monetize their children on social media where there are none make me ill. Even the ones that don’t push kids into adult situations.
