@sao I think with catch-up xp being a thing and social skills being wildly more useful now than they were earlier in the game, all skill buys should be on the same ladder, whether that is the current social skill or current combat skill xp ladder. I think the way to combat the dinosaur problem isn’t by taxing or not taxing certain skills, but by making sure that PCs at all skill levels are being given opportunities to grow and advance through plots or other activities depending on their character goals. I know that I tend to crack down pretty hard on people who gatekeep plot based on the sheet.

I’ve never found skills to be the biggest issue on Arx in any direction. I buy them, I have them, I’m OK, I’m not brilliant, some are better, but that doesn’t stop me being aces.
Of course, my big problem is I haven’t been able to look or go north or east for a week

@Narson This is a known glitch, please report it! I think restarting the server is the fastest way to fix it.

@Narson Gonna start calling it the Glenda Glitch.

Yeah I do think the result of a shakeup on the cost of socials would be like OMG BUT THE DINOSAURS HAVE THEM ALL ALREADY IT’S UNFAIR
which it probably would be but like, that’s why catchup XP exists in concept. Arx hasn’t solved the dinosaur problem, I know (as a very lazy dinosaur myself) but it does at least TRY.
Do you know the best way to solve the dinosaur problem?

@hellfrog Even though my character should technically be a Dino, she has been on the roster so long she still has pretty low stats, I think. So this is fine.

Today my Arx peeve is when I see the watch notification for someone logging off and think it is the watch notification for them logging on so I get excited and then sad.
I get sad about this everytime @tsar logs off.

My incendiary XP opinion is that social skills are so highly useful now they should be taxed as well – or else, OR ELSE. The combat tax should be removed.
But no one bites when I set this out to start fights.
My incendiary XP opinion is that the survival skill should be dunked in gasoline so it can be lit on fire so that it can die in a fire and then we can scoop out the ashes and split them into two different skills or maybe just nuke the combat portion entirely and make up the difference in save checks and then make the survivor Not A Combat Skill and then it can sit in the corner and think about what it’s done.
Oh and also stealth shouldn’t be a combat skill either. Unless we implement a roll for extremely dishonorable yet literal backstabbing, which would be choice.

@kalakh Also splitting Survival into two would help sort out Streetwise. Is it the Survival of the urban wastelands, and if so why do I need Survival as well?

My Arx thoughts & prayers as someone who has very little of the experiences the rest of ya’ll have but I wanted to contribute something to this thread.
- I would kinda like a @sheet that was just stats/skills/abilities no muss, no fuss. The demographic stuff is aight, but I feel like a simple sheet is always nice just for quick reference.
- Would be cool to have knacks display on the main sheet without a need for @knacks. Using my character as an example, he has a Command+Leadership knack, so some kind of * or something next to his leadership skill might be a nice small visible notation that there’s more here than meets the eye.
- Agree with people talking about equalizing skill costs. Maybe everything should be on the same level of combat skills for better XP balance?
- Would love to see knack information on the website with the rest of the sheet information.
- EDIT: would also love to see Domain skill information on the website. My dude has Income and that isn’t displayed on the website-based stat area.

Maybe we can call it “Stability” or something, and have it govern your agility skill.
That said, I totally agree. I want to be sturdy in a fight without suddenly being an amazing expert at what berries are edible in the desert or to see a wisp of cloud moving against the wind with my elf eyes.

@Solstice Yeah and conversely I wanted Tikva to be a competent wilderness scout and wasn’t really angling to have her be the amazing unkillable ping pong ball. That was a lot of XP to be able to tell people obnoxious facts about deer poop.
