@Testament It would be amusing if you wore a white tux.
Oh shit. If I hadn’t already bought my suit, that would be a hilarious temptation.
-
What I hear is “send money for new tux”

I thought about posting this in ‘Good Things in Mushing’, because it is. But I feel like that thread’s there for positive vibes, and although I feel entirely positive about this situation, it’s on the sassy side and I don’t wanna pollute people’s good cheer with sassy bitch energy.
Rolling my sleeves up:
God bless this hobby, for all its ups and downs and occasional bouts of immense drama, for having taught me the absolutely vital life skills of keeping receipts and handling verbal disputes.
I’m having trouble right now with an unkind individual in my RL sphere who made an entirely unreasonable request of me two years ago, to which I said, ‘No’. I’d initially been open to compromise, but they immediately jumped to threats and attempted blackmail. So, I did everything right: I immediately cut them off and ensured that any further communications I had with them were exclusively in writing, so there’d be a paper-trail if I needed to handle the situation again down the line. (And my gut told me I might.) They let off some steam into the void and then I never heard from them again, which is a result I was fully satisfied with.
It’s taken them this long to come back, this time with backup (vague threats to sue etc.), but other than that they have … less than nothing. Frankly, I’m pleased with myself. For the many times in this hobby where I’ve handled situations like this the wrong way, I’m grateful to have taken my lessons in protecting myself IRL where it counts.
It’s an RL happy! And a MU* happy. But like, low-key toxic, so I’m shoehorning it here.
EDIT: Should this have been in RL Vent? Idk, if mods want to move it that would be fine!

Youtube is somehow got it in its head that I want to read right-wing nutjobs because I am interested in global finance…
Yeesh this is horrible.
-
@Mourne I like leftist video essays so apparently to YouTube, that means I want to watch Fresh and Fit’s channel, which, no. No. Why would I ever? Why would anyone?

Husband is cooking pizza and my peeve is that I can SMELL IT but it’s not ready to EAT.

i hope he realizes how hurtful he’s being

@Roz He LAUGHED AT ME.
-
@junipersky Homemade, or freezer?
-
A little of both. We buy pre-made cauliflower crusts but then add everything else ourselves.
-
@junipersky I need to see if the stores near me sell cauliflower pizza crusts. Thanks!

TFW you realize your oldest kid is a little older than you were when you got engaged for the first time.
While also worrying that they don’t seem to have the same drive as you to be on their own (or the skills) so you wonder if you fucked up somehow but you also realize that actually its probably healthier that they don’t feel like they have to get married bc its the only way they can escape and maybe them not being overeager to escape is not a bad thing so maybe you did something right or at least ok.
Also summer’s almost over and I’m feeling a little sad.

The sinking realisation as an ageing Millennial that most of my childhood friends now have wrinkles.

My pet peeve is endless webpages that extend themselves when you get near the bottom.
The scroll wheel on my mouse is fricked, maybe it needs a clean or something but I’m really not wanting to disassemble my mouse to clean it (especially since the screws are hidden under the mouse feet so I’d need to buy more mouse feet which are cheap but still). As such I can’t really use it for scrolling.
So what I normally do instead is just click and drag the scroll bar down as I read. And that works great. Up until I get near the bottom and then suddenly ZOOP the page loads a bunch of extra stuff, skips to the bottom of that, loads yet more stuff, skips to the bottom of that, and then I have to try find where I was.
I don’t know why the internet thinks this feature is a great idea. It makes me miserable. And honestly, even if I had a working scroll wheel, I’d still probably prefer having individual pages I could skip between. When you have separate pages and you want to go to the last one? You just click the button to go to the last page. If you have infinite scrolling, well, have fun wasting minutes of your life getting to the end.
PS: I just found the option in my forum settings for pagination, so don’t fret! It’s now only everywhere else on the internet driving me crazy

The shelter I work for is all volunteer run. I foster, and fosters write the petfinder bios for the cats in our care.
Today the volunteer who runs our pet finder page mentioned she ‘edited’ my bios or ‘got permission’ to use pieces of it. This confused me, so I asked if there were guidelines I wasn’t aware of.
She responded with a list of nine things. I said ‘thanks’ but reached out to another volunteer to be like “Did you know about these?”
No. And they’re not guidelines. In fact, some of the things (like my bios are ‘too long’) are just down right wrong headed.
Everything is just what the pet finder volunteer decided ~she~ wanted to see on the site. I’ve decided it isn’t worth it to go to the shelter director about this. I’ll keep writing my bios how I like. All, but the four who went in Saturday, of my kittens have been adopted so… I guess it’s working.
-
@junipersky The demographic of folks involved/volunteering in shelters is… very varied.
Most do mean well, don’t get me wrong, but some are just fucking weird. And many of them don’t agree at all about very basic things when it comes to animal care, or want to make it about themselves, etc.

Today, an unopened soda can fell off the ‘dining room’ (it’s an apartment, y’all) table, rolled along like a little undetonated grenade until it hit the corner of the table. It gained a tiny little puncture and started spraying a fine spray of soda detritus up and into the world. PFFFFFFFFF. Ordinarily? Messy, but not a big deal. I wiped down the tables and chairs, and then noticed the wall.
Oh, the wall. It’s covered in soda streaks. I did a blot test with a microfiber cloth and plain water, applying only the pressure necessary to lightly dab one tiny area of the wall, and cloth came away covered in paint and visibly brought paint away with it.
Fan-fucking-tastic.
They didn’t use any primer, and used the most watery, cheapest paint imaginable.
Guess who has two thumbs and needs to beg the leasing center to “repaint” for the third time in a year?
I hate apartment life.
-
@Solstice Never mind the fact that rent prices have increased so much this year that we’re more or less paying a mortgage at this point. We’re paying more for our apartment than my fiancé’s brother pays for his house.
And our landlord has the gall to say that a $200/month increase this year is better than other places. It took all my willpower to not to tell her what I thought of that.
I can’t wait to get out of this place after three years. The Google review that I write(after we get our deposit back)is going to be such scorched earth. It may not mean anything, but it’ll feel good to me.
-
The situation doesn’t look much better for buying either. What a mortgage gets you rn is… frustrating.
-
Yup. I planned to buy a house in 2020, then pressed pause because of Covid uncertainty. Now feel trapped and frustrated.
