@catzilla This is the one that I referenced in my post above.

Honestly if they had just asked “hey can we use this is that cool” at the start, or said at any point “my bad, I think the AI scooped it and I didn’t know,” there wouldn’t be an issue. It’s the obfuscation and weird refusal to credit a coder with his code beyond the “idea” that frustrates me.

Totally agreed. Like, character wiki code ‘stealing’ is common and nobody bats an eye (rightfully so). So if this person was like, ‘oh I thought this was in the same guidelines, my bad’ or whatever, then no problem. Or even offering to put a ‘inspired by Trashcan’s code’ credit or something.

The double down denying is always so weird. 😄

FWIW, the Age of Heroes that is not copying anything and appeared to have the name picked out on an aresmush.com domain before anyone knew Ages of Heroes The Bad One existed is called Superheroes MUSH now https://superheroesmush.com/

The name thing seems shittier and shittier (and more deliberate) as more stuff comes up and must’ve been a bummer as gamerunner trying to get their own project off the ground.

              oh hi

there is no “good” Age of Heroes game

the “good” one is run by Chaucer from HAM, an abusive, self-obsessed weirdo who has spent years enabling creeps like everyone’s favorite Randian misogynist furry, Vorpal, who once tried to Power Word me in DMs using the wrong name and bullied someone off of HAM for liking a comic they hated

All of these games are ultimately descended from United Heroes, which had like 400-plus pages on MSB because it was run by an incel and staffed by a coterie of maladjusted freaks even by superhero game standards.

The first real split from UH was HAM, created by people who had absolutely no problem with how things were done on UH until one of them, Ruby, an emotionally unstable pathological liar, lost favor with the guy who ran UH. They made no changes from UH except for who was being abusive, unless you count letting Chaucer use his rambling, incoherent, hundreds-of-pages-long “theme” that centered around whatever media he had consumed that week.

(I will pause to say that I hate Ruby with a special intensity because even after a decade there are drooling quasi-humans who believe that I’m a predator because that was the only lie she could think up on the spot to deflect when I outed her e-boyfriend as a serial sexual harasser and stalker of my friends.)

From HAM, you get the Chaucer games and now - whatever, Superhero MUSH, I guess.

Nothing good will ever grow from that poison vine.

@Prototart I mean…I think that’s a pretty reasonable setting on a ‘Het-meter’. I’m overwhelmed just reading it let alone living it so you have nothing to apologize for.

Maybe one day we’ll have a superhero game not run by abusers.

I’ve heard of Vorpal before and not good things, but to your point it looks like Vorpal has come over to the game https://superheroesmush.com/char/vorpal

His presence anywhere should be taken as a massive red flag. I don’t think he plays anywhere but Chaucer games now cus nobody else will put up with someone going on an hour long rant about the supremacy of the free market when someone complains about their health insurance.

I know of one in the works, but I honestly think there is something about the genre. I largely agree with Alan Moore’s perspective on it.

Populations of players follow a genre, even if individual staffers are new and don’t know what they’re getting into, so I think this is realistic rather than cynical. Sometimes you can attract new people but mostly if you want to play in a particular pool with a MUSH history, you have to tank dealing with the people who’ve been on these games for decades and possibly contributed to their problems.

There’s always been a thing where games were basically the same staffers and the same players, usually holding the same characters. And the past, whatever, fifteen years it’s basically all been the same theme, too. I miss actual Marvel games and DC games and like places that had canon cutoffs but I don’t think anybody’s even tried that since I was a teenager.

With Great Power is Ares and it’s very Async-focused but I really like one of the heads there, Grackle.

@Kestrel Which is the one in the works? Is it a standard mu* or one of the new Ares ones? The only standard one that seems active at all seems to be HAM, which is unfortunate.
