Senior Engineer: A Tragedy in Two Parts
“Oh, a PR review request with no previous context. Must just be small I bet I can bang that out before lun-”
“Okay nbd it’s probably not all stuff I’m on the hook for let’s just filter b-”

@shit-piss-love So the real question is, was the PR “reformatted the code base”? That’s… quite a lot of changed files.

It turned out to be a summer intern’s research project. I showed them that they didn’t need to check out the entire repository for the image they were trying to build. It is now a 6 file PR.

It peeves me to know I forget the main assholery of people I’ve cut off contact with until like five minutes after I un-cutoff contact with them.

@eye8urcake It’s sort of one of the good things/bad things about having ADHD for me. My memory is sort of terrible, especially about stuff that I don’t find interesting. So, I often sort of forget or at least don’t focus on the bad shit people have done to me because I don’t find it interesting to dwell on people’s bullshit. I will cut them off and then sort of just… forget WHY I did that, then talk myself into letting them back in, then get swiftly reminded why I did it in the first place. Then, after a few months I have forgotten again and on and on we go. The cycle never fucking ends.

I just get @Roz and @sao to remember my grudges for me. I INSTANTLY FORGET. If it pops up again, THEY REMIND ME.
BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.
-
@Tez I clearly need a Grudge Posse of my own.
-
@eye8urcake I’ve always found it way easier to remember times someone upset my friend that to remember times something bad happened to me.
-
@sao There was a time I remembered everything, didn’t even need notes, or logs, I just… remembered.
Now it’s like…

While I don’t love that it happens to other people, to be honest I’m kinda glad that folks as a whole are getting old enough/are distracted enough by family and stuff now that I don’t even think my cognitive issues are super noticeable anymore. It used to be a real issue as far as posing speed and the like. But I know it’s stressful to have to feel around for words and feel like you have to work extra hard to keep up with stuff or recall that used to be lightning fast and detailed. On the upside, if you want to have alt privacy, chances are even if you tell me once, unless we play regularly and talk oocly about it, I’ll forget who your alts are pretty much immediately. And unless it made a HUGE impression I won’t stay mad at anything you do for long.

So I just discovered that I either need bifocals, or, I need to tilt my glasses down my nose a bit to read stuff in small text or real close to my face…
Now what am I going to do when I have my contacts in?
Ugh.
Old, why you hate me so?
-
@Mourne i got bifocals last year and oh my dog i wish I had gotten them earlier and not resisted it!!! I love them sooooo much. It only took me 24 hours to adjust.
-
@mietze I actually don’t mind that I will need bifocals, I just mind that it negates my ability to wear contacts and read stuff close to my face.
-
I tried progressive lenses once. Hated them. So YMMV.
-
I’d been wondering for a few days why I’d been feeling a little light-headed, like my vision was off just slightly.
Turns out that one of the ear rests had been bent very slightly and my glasses were no longer sitting on my face properly - both my eyes have astigmatisms so rotation of lenses is very important.
Bent them back and suddenly everything is fine again. Sigh.

Medical appointments that completely waste your time.
I spent about half of my day on PTO to go to some doctor and dental appointments. The dentist just sort of patted me on the head and told me to wait longer about the pain I’m in because they can’t find any reason why I’d be having it.
The doctor set up a sleep study for me and sent me home with it to use today and have it be returned tomorrow. The machine didn’t turn on last night, despite placing a haggard call to tech support who mostly just asked if I’d tried the power button.
Now I have to return said dud device today, which is another hour of my life I won’t get back, and I need to reschedule a new appointment in order to get another one. First available is several months away.
Winner: The insurance company.

@Solstice 1) Find a new dentist. 2) Find a new doctor.

Bifocal contacts are a thing now; but I’ve been too scared to try them. For the moment, I’m using readers. However, I have found this is not yet an every day occurrence for me, and that makes it even worse. Today I’m having a great eye day and don’t need to use anything additional. Tomorrow I might be consigned to using readers all day long. It sucks, getting older.
