From the other thread I get that you’re a squad and I have no interest in litigating shit on those games I had no part in,
I dunno, man, you seem pretty invested in uncritically taking serial liars who you don’t know, at their word about a situation you weren’t involved in, involving someone else who you also don’t know, for being uninterested in litigating shit you had no part of.

@renaveleigh I played Thor on UH. I dunno if the logs exist or whatever, but I quit with the giant pile of other people who did, over both the Illyana and Jean stuff.
All the same, I remember how Illyana acted. I remember how Knockout acted. If the Power Girl stuff is wrong, my bad, but again, the player has a pretty consistent MO for both how and what kind of characters she plays, and getting banned multiple times in a genre of game where you pretty much have to go out of your way to get banned.
And no, @Prototart I know you’re big not into dudes or whatever, but the OOC stuff can still be uncomfortable for people even if you’re not attracted to them. You did it, and the power gaming stuff on UH (you’re not suddenly not-Illyana now, right?). You did it on Knockout. If I made a comic game, you’d be pre-banned there for sure as you seem like all drama for no benefit, every place you are (same as Vorpal and Chaucer, for what that’s worth).
Whichever one of you is PG I’m sure will end up getting them tossed off this place too.

you are fucking delusional
-
@Prototart I’ve never been banned from a game where people play characters who wear their underwear outside their clothes, though.
-
@bored That isn’t the insult/flex that you think it is

Re: Canon Sexuality thing has extremely valid reasoning: it’s not actually limiting their canon sexuality at all. Well… kind of.
For characters traditionally strait or ambiguous, do whatever. But if you are playing a character that part of their story is that they are full on Gay or Lesbian (Your Jonathan Kents, Bobby Drakes, Katherine Kanes, Karolina Deans) they would rather somebody not show up and go ‘I love the aesthetic but no homo, so the Kryptonian who is famously gay decided it was just a phase and now only bangs the cute girls’ or whatever.
Re: Biological whatsits has the same reasoning, but I agree that I think they went too far with it. It’s not erasing trans experiences or voices by adding more options any more than someone picking up a canonically strait character and playing them as super gay does.
I think it’s a case of they don’t want to come across as insensitive and botched the landing; because you can still run around and do all the Futa scenes you want, nobody is stopping you, just ‘it was a spell/someone transformed you temporarily’ (this is a clarification on the forum post announcing the policy update, not in the policy itself).
At least they announced this change. They added lactation under the ‘no preggos’ umbrella, which kind of fair but also weird.
HONESTLY the biggest warning flag is the ‘if you have an issue do not complain on channel, talk to us in private’ thing. Not that I’ve had issues with anyone, but every time I get a ping from staff on any game with that kind of policy, I get a ‘oh god what rule did I accidentally break that they are about to ban me for?’ reaction.
So that’s nice.
-
Ban drama aside, taking a stance that they don’t want players retconning what an established character was assigned at birth isn’t exactly “banning trans characters”.
I might’ve missed something but I didn’t see a rule that you’d get banned if you complained to anyone who isn’t staff, either.

hello guys, it’s been a while. i don’t rp, but i would like some logs and some hard evidence?? Too many soft accusations flying around and i don’t like soft things but i do love judging for myself, about this hobby i don’t participate in anymore.

I honestly don’t see the problem with this kind of thing. Like, it kinda sucks to erase queer characters, but in the first place, that’s not happening in canon; it’s happening on a TS game with a worryingly predatory set of rules. In the second place, sexuality and gender identity are messy as hell, not to mention fluid, and people go through exploratory phases and/or mislabel themselves all the time. “Woman who thought she was bi for way too long before figuring out she’s purely gay” happens so often I’m pretty sure there’s a section for them on the greeting card rack at Hallmark!
I just don’t feel like the thing being protected is worth protecting.

We had a similar issue on the game that I run, which is a comic book game, we are a roster game, and we had to take some time to discuss making a character trans. We like to be inclusive, and the person playing that character had possession of this particular character for quite some time. (More than a year.)
We’re still discussing it, and trying to make any transition that happens an organic thing that isn’t rushed but done over time through RP.
There is always the chance that this character gets dropped and picked up by another player who doesn’t want to continue that kind of storyline and we try to keep that in mind before we make any big changes.
I think this is a very sensitive subject, and I don’t think someone making the request warrants a ban, so I’m wondering what else was said or done while this happened.
-
@Twinkle Oh nobody was banned for this (unless I missed something), they were not allowed to make permanently Futa Power Girl.
Edit to add: Sent back to chargen, since been approved, now on grid for coffee.
-
@Jennkryst The first post about this was that they were banned from the mush. That’s the only reason why I brought that particular point up.

I swear I saw this but now I can’t find it, so I’ll edit earlier post about me being dumb, unless I DO find it. Either way will update for clarity.

Wonder Woman was set unapproved for a while

This is the weird part, yeah. It was fine for Wonder Woman, fast forward to Power Girl and policy change.
I know trans folks on both sides. Some are cool with Futa characters, others view it as people fetishizing their bodies and wanting no part in it. Both are valid, but it is a weird place to draw the distinction. I dunno, I’m wording bad.
-
@Jennkryst Fetishization versus empowerment/ownership of desirability is a moving target, mostly dependent on the individual parties involved. I have book recs.
Sad for the staffer who had to write that superheroes don’t lactate. No matter what the story behind that ruling was, sad for them.
-
AS A TRANS PERSON…
I get the argument, vis a vis fetishization and I’m certainly not unsympathetic to it. I think it’s worth considering in plenty of contexts when it comes to constructing characters/stories/et cetera.
It’s just odd for me to square it in THIS specific case, at least for the reasons stated. Ultimately, it’s not a big deal to me - I have removed the offending penis! - so much as a weird one. It’s a game where the primary thrust is ‘what if we just lean into the usual environment on cape games and acknowledge that people like writing smut’, with lax theme/continuity policies to accommodate such, so while there are definitely arguments to be made about fetishization, it strikes me that they by rights ought to apply pretty broadly here, shouldn’t they?
Or, to put it crassly: If I can do a series of scenes in which Wonder Woman sets up shop at a truck stop men’s room for funsies, and that is not disrespectful, inappropriately fetishistic, et cetera, then drawing the line at one of the sets of dangly bits aboard this hypothetical train being Hawkgirl’s feels weird, to me personally. It would probably feel LESS weird if it were not inherently a game where players are encouraged to fetishize a myriad of other aspects of comic book characters for the sake of titillation-- or even if the line was more along the lines of ‘don’t JUST shuffle parts around, put like five seconds of thought into it’, I would get it.
(For the record, ‘how exactly does this make sense’ was indeed part of my thought process, because I’m the kind of weirdo that likes to be able to tie her smut-writing to, like. SOMETHING tangible.)
Anyway, all that having been said, to reiterate: I as one of the affected parties am not ANGRY or whatever, so much as a little bummed/bemused. Nobody was banned. Trans characters are in theory appable, but given how few such characters there are, it’s a very tenuous theory. Pls don’t send hate at these people who I am charitably assuming made a well-intentioned but clumsy decision against the backdrop of being a small staff on a game that wasn’t expected to take off at the rate it did. Choices get made quickly sometimes under those circumstances, and they aren’t always ideal.

we actually looked btw there’s one who we’ve ever seen played anywhere ever and half of them are characters who showed up once in one of the yearly Pride specials
