Suspected Superhero Creeping Or Something
-
Hello.
First, thanks to @Snackness for helping spread the word.
To answer @L-B-Heuschkel; yes. Staff on the game in question have been made aware and are conducting their own investigation.
I know that the ‘trust the process’ line isn’t going to be all that comforting to a lot of people in light of everything that’s happened, but I’m giving the game a fair chance to work their process as well as the player in question a fair chance without smearing them with the DWOPP label. Receipts are being gathered and analyzed, and will be presented when there’s harder evidence than ‘I got a bad feeling here…’ All there are at the moment are behavioral patterns that match. Could be DWOPP, could be some other/new toxic player. Theno and I had a conversation on MUHaven last night with a newer MUSHer who liked the idea of a completely ‘no-holds barred’ game and didn’t see anything wrong in emotional manipulation of players. No accusations, just that IMO, the hobby tends to attract players of all sorts, good and bad.
Like I said in the post, this is just the smoke alarm going off. There could be a fire, there might not be. I just think it’s better for Staff and Players to be aware that DWOPP, or someone like them, might be back active again.

@Runescryer Even if it’s not that creepy fuckface, it sounds like it’s a creepy fuckface and either way, needs dealing with.

I think this is the more important point to focus on than actually finding DWOPP. Instead of trying to find out if a player is DWOPP, staff should be focused on verifying if a player has those tendencies and qualities, and taking action. It doesn’t matter if that person is DWOPP or not and they don’t have to fit the bill perfectly. There should be a line where when enough boxes are checked, they should be shown the exit.
DWOPP just fits the type of player that should not be welcomed in any game.

There’s some A+ level flouncing from the dude in question on the MSB thread.

Did some snooping.
The player banned was Lithium@MSB. Def not DWOPP or anything close to it. Asked around, too, and apparently the people he had issue with, one of them is the headstaffer for Elseverse (who actually DOES have DWOPP tendencies in how he tries to gaslight, manipulate, and love-bomb people) and Macha@MSB, who… well, it’s Macha.
Shady AF, if you ask me.
But the point is, maybe instead of crying wolf to the four winds, next time make sure the behavior is actually happening, too, because by all accounts, it wasn’t.
-
@Coin Uh, the Elseverse headwiz is nothing like you’re making him out to be.
Also glass houses and all.

Glass houses?
What exactly do you mean, pray tell. Are you insinuating I’m a gaslighting manipulator who guilt trips and love-bombs people?
If you’re gonna say it, say it.

@Coin Everything I’ve ever seen and heard about and from you paints the picture of a petty, abusive narcissist edgelord.

Oh yeah?
From whom? Or is it again, just hearsay? Lord forbid I not get along with everyone. But hey, you have stories right? You’ve been given details?
Tell everyone how nasty I am.

@Coin why, when you’re doing such a good job yourself?

Am I?
You know what, I know some of the people on this forum – in fact, I’d hazard to guess I know most of them – and I’m sure many of them don’t like me because of my attitude, or other friendships I’ve had, or whatever reason.
But if anyone here wants to back your claims, that’s cool. You seem to think that me asking you to do so with at least concrete claims makes me look bad.
It doesn’t, not to people who actually pay attention.

My experience of Lithium is indeed not the same brand of issues as DWOPP generally. But they certainly have their own brand of problematic behavior and have been banned from at least one other game for it, so I don’t know that it’s necessarily shady if they ended up banned again.
-
@Roz DWOPP has kind of become a “bad actor” catchall bogeyman. It’s easier for people to want to think there’s just one abusive asshole out there and if they just ban his IP, everyone is safe. Turns out there’s lots of people who do fuckery, and that’s scary.

From what I know, this banning was done in haste, thus shady. That doesn’t mean they’re the type of person you want on your game, of course. What I consider shady is that by all accounts, Lithium was banned after they reported behavior from someone else who was also banned. It was all more of a ‘let’s just ban the whole lot’.
Which is fine, I guess, just not my style.

Yeah, that’s silly and I think is, in some ways, often a distraction. It’s not important if one bad actor is the same as another; if they’re engaging in similar bad behavior, people should get banned for bad behavior regardless of their identity.

Fair enough! Thanks for the context.

@Coin I will never, ever, ever regret alerting people to the possibility of internet predators. Ever.
-
@Coin You and I get on just fine. Which is probably a concrete piece of evidence that you’re scum, to some folks.

This is so inaccurate as to be ridiculous. Are we just making shit up because Coin said something you don’t agree with? There’s a lot of things you COULD say about him, but ‘abusive’? Do please bring the receipts for your fanfiction. Can he be a dick? Sure. “abusive narcissist” is waaaaaaay beyond “sometimes a dick” and it’s the kind of hyperbole that makes it harder to deal with ACTUAL problems.

And I never said you should. But there is a difference between, “this behavior is what is happening, these are the receipts/testimonials/actual actions going on” and “possible sighting of known predator, omg omg omg”.
All I’m saying is the latter stokes hysteria (legitimate or not) and the former actually provides tools to handle the issue.
