@Lurrr I’m not saying anything about Jackaltrade because they freely offered to out themselves by providing their information, but I would like to normalize not showing receipts. It’s occasionally traumatizing to relive that kind of thing, it’s almost always humiliating to show yourself getting degraded, and it’s very likely to result in retaliation from the accused who want to show receipts of how actually she totally asked for it. Let people give the amount of information they feel safe giving, and let the people who receive these kinds of freely-offered warnings either take the warning or not. I don’t think it’s fair to take the experience these people have gone through and add to it a burden of accepting responsibility for meeting the standards strangers need to be convinced.

RE: MU Peeves Thread
When you have to take a mental health break from a game because your life is in a bad enough place you don’t know if you have the fortitude to deal with the game’s atmosphere and then you’re in the shower the next morning asking yourself, Isn’t the fact that you need fortitude to deal with the game kind of a red flag?

Prove me wrong.
No. You don’t get to come in here today, from nowhere, hiding behind a veil of anonymity that hides the personal stake you clearly have in all this, and appoint yourself the sole arbiter of what are and are not the facts. If you want people to take you seriously, then behave like a serious person. If you want to bark commands like an imperious toddler, then carry on as you are, and I hope you enjoy getting treated like the infant you present yourself as.

RE: Bannings
I really need to stop going back there to find out what y’all are talking about in these conversations.
Most of those two threads came off to me like people who complain about how America needs more civility in its discourse, where “civility” is code for “never protesting when someone hurts you because that might make people who support hurting you (or just lack the spine to stand up against people who hurt you) feel uncomfortable.”
“How can we heal the community,” moans man who refuses to listen to the complaints of anyone he disagrees with and immediately dismisses them as being part of a clique of people he can’t identify but whose villainous intentions he knows without question. He offers this question in an echo chamber where the people he needs to address literally cannot respond to him, because he has no interest in an answer to the question, just in appearing to be a put-upon peacemaker who is rejected by those unreasonable whisper-campaigning bitches in The Clique.
It’s enough to put my off my dinner. Fuck.

RE: Bannings
Yes, nobody has to accept an apology. But forgiveness is still more freeing than holding ten-year-old grudges in a small community.
Please don’t do that. Don’t act like forgiveness is an act of enlightenment. It’s not: it’s a choice that a person makes after considering whether the act would reap greater benefits than it costs to withhold. I feel the only way anyone can present forgiveness as a categorical good is if they have never had to calculate whether forgiveness would put them into unsafe positions.
It’d be nice to be able to be friends and forgive each other and direct our empathy to each other.
Friends respect boundaries. If Vulgar Kitten wants to be anyone’s friend (as opposed to you wanting everyone else to be Vulgar Kitten’s friend, for what reason I can’t even guess), then she is welcome to attempt to earn it by respecting people’s boundaries and offering the acts of contrition they would find convincing. If she’s not willing to do that, then that sucks, but two to tango and all that.

@Kestrel was genetically engineered in a laboratory to be the world’s greatest warrior, but was raised in England as part of a social experiment to see if the nation’s “what would the neighbors think” culture could override her genetic programming. It has not occurred yet to the scientists that neither is the case; that Kestrel might have chosen a life of peace of her own free will and morality.
Kestrel once saved four babies from a burning orphanage. She didn’t rush into the fire or anything silly like that. Rather, she rebuked the fire sharply to stop being such a little attention-seeker, and the flame, humiliated, slinked off into a river to think about what it had done.
Kestrel posts so rarely on this board because she spends most of her time in outer space, visiting the sun. She has discovered the sun is actual a titanic labyrinth made of plasma, which she has been mapping off and on for the last three years. Many alien species are assisting her efforts in exchange for access to her data and to her music recommendations, which they seem to consider a form of currency.
Once per year, Kestrel may summon an army of gerbils to do her bidding. She does not know where, when, or how she acquired this power, but the gerbils know, and they refuse to speak of it.
Kestrel refuses to watch “white savior” movies because it reminds her of the time she personally unified China thousands of years ago. In retrospect, she wishes she’d let them unify themselves, but it’s too late to fix that now. All she can do is try to avoid the embarrassment.

RE: Bannings
The idea that both sides don’t recognise the split is harmful? Of /course it is/.
See, I’m not sure it is ultimately.
The reasons behind the split, and the metaphorical violence behind the split? Absolutely harmful and I’m not going to deny it.
For me, the inciting incident was me making a post saying, “This piece of news hurt me very much.”
Derp replied with, “I refuse to engage you on that level, because it is more important to me to show that I am detached and intelligent and saw it coming than it is to acknowledge that this hurts you or affects anyone’s live.”
I replied, "You’ll never stop this, will you?
He replied, “No, and you’re wrong to ask me to.”
That is the violence I personally suffered in this split, the hurt I’ve tried to veil behind my online persona of detached irony.
So, as you say, I do not consider the split itself harmful. Even though I don’t think I’ve played on a MU* in at least eighteen months, what I feel most about the split is relief and a sense of safety, knowing he and his fanboys are out of my life as far as my forum career goes and maybe for the rest of my life. I am well shed of them. I know it won’t stop them from trying to hurt me (and I look forward to learning that someone has screengrabbed this post to bolster their argument that I am stirring the drama), but they are welcome to do what they want. In this moment, I feel peaceful, and wish them all the joy they can find in trying exact revenge on my ghost.

Hey, you. Yeah, you, the one reading this. No, I don’t know who you are. Doesn’t matter for what I’m about to say, and if you think it does, you are incorrect.
You’re cool and the people who deserve you like you for who you are. Got it? You better, because if I catch you saying otherwise, you will be in trouble.
Good. Now go on, get outta here. Go conquer the world. You got this.

@Val I know just how you feel. I spent the last several years with a mistaken diagnosis of a back injury: it was a hip injury. Now that I’m getting the correct therapies, my life is just–I can’t even. If someone reading this doesn’t know what it’s like to be in constant pain, and for that pain to go away, then I’m not even gonna try to explain it. I don’t want anyone to ever understand that.
Sorry, got sidetracked. Point is, I’m so happy your life is better.

@Kestrel said in How dangerous is VASpider?:
I feel the need to stress that what you describe here as “the bad old days” still goes on today, or that I’ve at least seen extensive, verifiable screenshots of it occurring as recently at least as 10 months ago. Not in the MUSH community, that I know of, but very much a thing on MUDs and especially RPIs.
Shortly before I realized this hobby mostly ain’t worth it, I was on a mostly dead game with a guy who was complaining at me about how the woke mob has ruined John Constantine by turning him bi, which of course they’d do because they’re all a bunch of perverts whose sick minds have to make everyone gay. John Constantine, for those of you who aren’t that flavor of nerd, is a sleazy con artist of a magician invented in the eighties and modeled after David Bowie, explicitly intended by word of God to have been bi from creation.
Another time in that same period, someone in a Discord server for a dying, mostly abandoned game started going off about how all gay people should die in fires for daring to suggest people like him shouldn’t say we should die in fires. The story is less interesting than the summary.
So yeah, they’re still out there. They’re just mostly hiding in deserted games, a fact I can confidently state based on my purely anecdotal experience of two instances.

RE: Elysium /MUSH
You know what? I’ve never forgotten how bad the writing is. This has been weighing on my mind for months, maybe years, so I’m actually gonna do it. I’m gonna go line by line on this bitch.
The story of Elysium begins with the tale of a very pervy girl, Hikaru Shidou.
Good, let’s start by describing the sexuality of a child. Let’s get that gag reflex nice and warmed up.
As you might know, Hikaru went on an adventure early in Her life.
How? How would I know that? How would I possibly know that?
She wound up obtaining the powers of a Goddess.
“And I hope you don’t care about how, because I’m going to yadda-yadda literal deification as irrelevant.”
Leaving the world She gained that power on to it’s own inhabitants, She decided to create Her own world.
“yadda yadda made a world”
She decided to name this world “Elysium”.
I promise I’m not going to rag on punctuation. That’s low-class. I’m just saying I notice.
She did not name it after any particular thing. She just thought that it sounded good.
“She named her world after the name of a world in our world, but that was coincidence. She invented those syllables in that order spelled with those characters. It’s a monkeys-at-typewriters kind of situation. I don’t know why I expect you to care.”
Hikaru, as mentioned before, is a very pervy girl.
Cool, thanks for repeating it and acknowledging you’re repeating it. Nothing condescending about that.
She had always felt that the “Age Laws” were unfair.
Are you gonna tell us what laws those are, or why they’re unfair? No? Just gonna leave that hanging? Cool, great argumentation, couldn’t be more convincing.
So, on Her world, those “Laws” are lowered considerably. Instead of “Age Laws”, Her world has “Consent Readiness Laws”.
Which is it? Are the laws lowered or replaced?
Those “Laws” state that if you feel the desire, physical and otherwise, to do something then you should be allowed to do it.
Never mind all the obvious ways that could result in tragedy. How can a law say you “should be” allowed to do a thing, rather than that you are allowed to do a thing?
These "Laws" also clarify between "good desires", and "bad desires".
please stop putting that word in ironic quote marks
Quite simply put, you are not allowed to do “bad things”.
Never, ever say “Quite simply put.” It makes you sound like an eighth grader trying to use unnecessary words to fill out a book report that’s two paragraphs too short.
If you want to kill someone, that is NOT allowed. And will likely see you carted off to jail. And executed. If you want to attend a dance club orgy where you can get fucked silly, fuck someone else silly, or both then you are allowed to do so. Provided you feel the desire, physical or otherwise, to do so.
Why? What makes one desire good and the other bad? I almost think you’re deliberately refusing to lay down the foundation of your world’s morality because it can’t possibly hold up to scrutiny given that its whole purpose is to justify assaulting children you literal monster.
Regardless of whatever your age actually is. If you feel “ready”, then you are ready. And should be allowed to do it. Age doesn’t matter.
Like how a five-year-old feels “ready” to drive a car, so they should be allowed to. They won’t hurt themselves or others. Feeling ready to do a thing is the same as being ready with the necessary skills and judgment.
Hikaru was aided in Her effort by The Dark Goddess Liananna. The Dark Goddess of Night, Darkness, and Shadows.
Who is that, why did she help, how did she help, what’s the nature of the relationship, wh–oh, Christ, never mind, this is all just to allude to hawt lesbain secks and we both know it. Why am I acting like there’s a point to this mythology? That’s honestly on me.
Afterall, Hikaru was pretty new to world building. And Liananna had been doing so for quite awhile.
Then why haven’t I heard of her?
Hikaru, in Her thanks for Liananna’s help, decided to make Liananna an equal ruler of the world They created. So, the two Goddesses now rule the world as Sisters.
Oh. Hawt lesbain inzest. Of course. I should have seen that coming.
The people of this world do not age, unless they want to. And they can revert themselves if they’ve aged themselves too far.
ew ew no ew no send it back no ew fucking gross
Also their bodies are in perfect health. There is nothing wrong with their bodies. And they never need fear disease.
I mean, I guess it’s not the worst excuse I’ve ever heard for not needing to make responsible choices during sex to prevent STDS.
Injuries heal up at a fast rate too.
Like, say, the injuries a child might reasonably get from nope stop right there brain I don’t need that thought in my head
Because no one ages, or dies from disease, Liananna expanded their new world by use of dimensional folding to produce infinite space. Now there is a place for all those trillions of people to be at happily.
That’s way too much technobabble to say, “I have a breeding kink.” I normally wouldn’t bother being judgmental about anyone’s kinks but you want to abuse children, so, like, I hope people get where I’m coming from here.
Everyone on the world has their own personal fold space. And all the villages, towns, cities, etc., and etc. are in fold space.
That’s way too much technobabble to say, “I don’t like continuity or consequences so this world has no causality.”
This leaves the surface of the world pure, natural, and beautiful looking.
“This world is built on child abuse but in our favor the landscapes are awesome.”
Hey, let’s check back on that gag reflex! How’s everyone doing? Keeping your gorges down? Because I’m going to kneel in the bathroom for the rest of the night! I really thought writing this would purge some of the figurative bile in me, but nope, it just raised the literal stuff to the back of my throat! Love that acidic taste! That’s just the reaction I hope to have when someone offers a chance to play make-believe with them!
But before I go, seriously, what the fuck is up with that 1996-ass looking web design? Looks like fucking Geocities or something.
In conclusion,
