      The “Social Contract” with tiers of actions and themes is something I very much like. And in fact need in the context of a future game set in the past.

        It’s not a wholly original idea (credit iirc to @blu and @Roadspike though I can’t recall where they came across stuff like it). Has clarified some stuff helpfully as things’ve gone on, like it pretty well.

          The earliest mentions of social contract in an RP group is probably from the old IndieRPGs forum in the very late 90’s early 00’s. I think some of the games that came out of that forum ended up with social contract stuff in their texts.

            I really love the idea, and love that it’s catching on. I think it’s great for keeping players from being blindsided either by something happening in a scene that they weren’t expecting, or from having their characters chewed out ICly for something that’s just part of the game world.
