@Prototart damn imagine being LC or WW and NOT supporting the girlies. Historic hobby L
From what little I know about Ruby, we all know that she’s picking LC for two very certain assets that appeal to Ruby’s target audience and nothing else.

I don’t care if all character stats are available for everyone.
But leave histories/backgrounds private. I enjoy a slower burn for learning about PCs and them learning about my PC.

RE: Freeform or Systems?posted in Rough and Rowdy
@Ominous To me, a system is some sort of mechanics ruling for abilities/powers/etc. that gives some fairness/stability to the game.
It could be as simple as ‘any time you want to do something requiring a roll, roll a D6 and if you get a 5 or 6 you succeed’. Or it could be something as complex as I hear that FATAL system.

Freeform or Systems?posted in Rough and Rowdy
What’s your preference and why?
Does it matter on which ‘genre/game/etc’ it is?
Like, you’d play on a freeform vampire game but never a freeform werewolf game?
This question/curiosity came about in the superhero and Star Wars threads. (Some) people said freeform superhero is great but a freeform Star Wars game is ICK?

@catzilla There’s a Star Wars game out now that uses traits. I don’t play there but not because of the system they use. I think it could work very well. You can check them out at https://swdarktimes.com/
This is exactly the game I was talking about. It was mentioned in that dumpster fire game thread and basically was snubbed by person/people because it DOESN’T have mechanics.

I discovered the MU world like “only” 10 years ago.
I still don’t know the difference between MUSH, MUX, etc.

@catzilla Narrative power sets (1-2 paragraph explanation of range and min/max impact) with a baseline skill to roll.
I did A LOT of forum PBP during my 20s-early 30s so this is what I’m used to.
But…
Why did people turn their nose up at the same idea for a Star Wars game?
Maybe this should be a new topic about freeform vs systems or something? I’d be interested in knowing further on the topic in general.

So for an OC-only/focused (refer to previous post in thread with questions about this…), what system would people use?
- Deviant the Renegades?
- FS3?
- What do the superhero MUSHes use?
- Some other system out there made specifically for superhero-ing?
INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!

People like OC only/focused superhero games?

So like…
- Totally original (but inspired by X, Y, Z) ideas?
- Set in a known universe but OCs are allowed along with canon characters?
- Set in known universe, only OCs and canon characters (these are FC right?) are only NPC?
I have so many ideas…

Damn, why am I catching strays over here?

Which one is yours?

To those of us mostly in the WOD/COFD sphere, this is kind of like when Sundancer told us Polk wasn’t really that bad.

Superheroesmush.com is run by the group of us that split away from HAM’s staff. That’s not going to be a place anyone who thinks they get special favors by staffing is going to do well in.
Apparently this is one that is run by Chaucer? I don’t remember exactly what his deal was but he was known bad actor? Maybe?

run a silly one shot that will (probably) not have an effect on the setting.
so, curious, how could a game get you to run a plot that could have an effect on the setting, affect the metaplot or change the world in some sort of way? Is it just as simple as keeping that “You can do whatever you want here as long as it doesn’t break the world” on the tin or would you need something else?
In my mind, that is something I look to the STs toward. It is their world, I am just a player in it.
So, I guess it would be something like this… I run a bunch of scenes (whether or not my PC is involved, I do like them to be but depends on site rule) for Characters A, B, and C. More than half of these scenes are the Characters rescuing kittens from trees. Even if the STs/staff aren’t involved in these scenes, they would (hopefully) be at least aware of these scenes and the results of them (was kitten rescued or no?).
ST 1 is in control of the local Cat Spirit NPC. So maybe they reach out to Characters A and B because of their actions and rewards them somehow (with plot info, secrets, boons, etc. it can be whatever).
ST 2 is in control of the local Dog-shifter Villain NPC, who loves kitties in trouble. Dog NPC reaches out to Character C to corrupt them. Or whatever!
The STs have the fire department reward all Characters with some Status or something and unlock some clues to the fire department mystery.
I dunno.

RE: When is the last time you played?posted in Game Gab
@Yam At least for me, it’s less about incentives and more about what I’m allowed to do without a whole bunch of paperwork.
Some games are like “as long as you don’t blow up the city or use specific NPCs, run all the scenes”. Other games say “most things are fine, but just reach out if you’re concerned”. And then even others restrict further with, “anything beyond Bar RP requires a detailed submission with a questionnaire and approval from the entire staff team”.
I definitely enjoy running scenes in those first two types of games and will do so frequently for anyone interested. Like, let’s run into a spooky clown monster in the alley or accidentally come across a secret ghost cult in a basement. Admittedly, I will do these spur of the moment and make things up along the way. People usually seem to have fun.
The latter game, I will probably not run scenes on. I don’t want to have to wait a week or month or so to run a silly one shot that will (probably) not have an effect on the setting.

@catzilla This is the one that I referenced in my post above.
Honestly if they had just asked “hey can we use this is that cool” at the start, or said at any point “my bad, I think the AI scooped it and I didn’t know,” there wouldn’t be an issue. It’s the obfuscation and weird refusal to credit a coder with his code beyond the “idea” that frustrates me.
Totally agreed. Like, character wiki code ‘stealing’ is common and nobody bats an eye (rightfully so). So if this person was like, ‘oh I thought this was in the same guidelines, my bad’ or whatever, then no problem. Or even offering to put a ‘inspired by Trashcan’s code’ credit or something.
The double down denying is always so weird.

Since there are two games with the same name and one of them is displaying some dubious behavior so far…
Can we get some links to these games? Like this url is the ‘good’ one and this one is the ‘bad’ one?
