    • RE: What Do You Want Out of a MU?

I’m looking for a game where it’s not 24/7 slice-of-life RP (coffee shop, hanging out at the mall, park, etc.). I’d love to play somewhere where if I put the time into creating a character and concept that isn’t just a normal person like me in RL, I could actually interact with the world, use my sheet/powers/skills, and do things related to a plot or story.

I’m not opposed to the day to day RP, but I am tired of it being the only thing I find on games.

@Pan Run that content then, nobody is stopping you, even on a slice of life game.

      thanks pal

    • RE: Asking for RP

It’s impossible to play on a Mu* anymore for me. Asking for RP and finding RP is such a chore and then when it’s found it’s usually some weird slice-of-life stuff that people want to play, which in a lot of cases isn’t what I’m looking for.

So it’s a constant circle of building PCs, getting amped, trying to find something to do, and failing and just realizing hours/days/weeks/months/whatever of my life has been wasted.

@Tez At a guess, it’s a combination of several factors.

One factor is that with Ares games at least, the whole behind-the-curtain operations have become significantly simpler and easier, assuming that you’re not running huge amounts of custom code to be maintained.

Another is probably that by now, we’ve all seen a lot of games go down in flames due to interpersonal fights on staff. Sometimes, it might feel safer to have just a few people.

For us on Keys, the magical number has been three.

Sounds like we need a community project to get a couple of good working WoD plugins (if that’s what it’s called on Ares) going for cWoD 20th, and maybe nWoD 2e. Then games potentially could move to the codebase and thrive?

i’m pretty sure the medical term for this is a “tantrum.”

Also, it sounds like something led to this that isn’t being talked about. The catalyst that made Sundance want to gently let Polk go to be a player without being involved as staff.

@Pan You’re always on here complaining that someone hasn’t made specifically what you want, ready for you to show up and enjoy. So run some action? That was always allowed?

If the complaint legitimately is “no one is doing a thing I also won’t do” then, lol.

Thanks for coming into the “What do you want out of a MU” thread to try to crap on my comment. I thought that was reserved for other places in this forum. But I hope this made you feel better about yourself, great work.

Perhaps the person posting stuff that was obviously from Sundance’s screen that was shared probably in confidence (also an unwise move that real friends should have warned about) thought better of it (hopefully) or was asked by someone else to knock it off?

I hope that’s a lesson learned too, should be easy to figure out who broke confidence.

Oh Roz says its still up, so apparently no to realizing that was a not great thing to do. 😕

She (Sundance) openly shared it all and discussed it all in the game for transparency.

My current peeve, all the games I play seem to be a text version of The Sims.

      @Pan How so?

The games just seem to become life simulation games with nothing but social events.

But my experience of WoD is that there seems to just be a fair amount of ST oversight needed for running story/plot/etc., and that part of things will be exactly the same.

      Basically this.

And every additional sphere you add increases this in an almost logarithmic way. You’ve got different mechanics for every group, different story needs, figuring out how that story interacts with the stories for the other spheres and any metaplot you’ve got cooking… WoD/CoD games are often three or four games wrapped in a single framing device.

Yeah, exactly. What an Ares plugin would do, I think, is make starting up a game more accessible to more people. But it would, I assume, mostly just provide a similar functionality to something like Theno’s code suite for MUX: you’d have your WoD sheets, a dice roller to roll stuff from them, ways to track spending and regaining your various pools, etc. But a good plugin would hopefully just make WoD game setup and maybe the maintenance a bit easier, and have the benefits that come from core Ares that people enjoy. But it can’t replace or automate away the areas that need staff oversight, arbitration, and storytelling.

Yeah, I think the accessibility is the winning feature, the ability for more people for good or bad to spin up games. The good: good games can come out of it. The bad: bad actors as reported here spinning up games and being bad. But I’d imagine they’d be figured out quickly and pointed out to be avoided or played on at ones own risk.

@SuspectHound okay everyone keeps talking about how polk is banned from ALL THE GAMES EVER. what games has he actually been banned from??? i think i only coexisted with him on one game that he’s been gone from for years

I saw him banned from a game called Modern Nights. He was a mage PC, had a huge public meltdown. That was right around the time Liberation was just going to open.

I thought about this some more, and the idea that anyone other than Sundance had that level of control over the technical infrastructure of the game and wasn’t considered staff just seems ridiculous.

I think the move to ask him to step down from a staff role and lose access prompted the meltdown and shutdown or whatever action Polk took.

If I’m reading the situation right, that is.

I don’t think it’s been said what prompted the desire to make that happen and what made him act in the manner he did instead of just stepping back and taking a beat to process how to move forward without causing all the chaos.
